I'm a huge Werdum fan so I was sad about him losing last night (especially how it happened) but I also like the Croatian Avenger so that helps soften it a little bit. That said I'm finding the 'part time fighter' criticisms towards Stipe popping up really dumb. Counterpoints -

1. Do people actually think training enough of the time for it to be considered a full time job, leaving little room for a second gig, is optimal? There's only so much strain a body can take, maybe humans generally are not designed to train MMA full time? With the number of injuries and injury cancellations plaguing the sport you'd THINK fans would consider that maybe the current training standards are flawed. It's very possible that the lessened wear or tear and 'fresher' body from a lighter training schedule outweighs the slightly greater refinements that come from pushing the limits further. Maybe actually holding another job isn't ideal compared to just lighter training and more rest but on the other hand it would discourage one from overtraining since you'd be motivated to stay healthy for your other job.

2. Many fighters also coach or run a gym but we never hear this complaint about them. Isn't coaching also a 'second job?' Why do only side jobs not related to fighting count as being worthy of criticism?

WAR Stipe, proving elitists about being a 'full time' fighter wrong.

Wasn't Shane Carwin like a nuclear engineer or some shit, there are plenty of pro-fighters that do other stuff.

Roy Nelson is a professional fat dude, and he's done pretty well too.

I predicted Stipe would win, but he will have his hands full with Overeem. If he beats Overeem, he has a shot at being a long reigning champ, but I think this belt is going to get tossed around a lot over the next few years

Werdum went full retard

I'm sure you'll tell us that you picked the winner of Stipe vs Overeem after their fight.

What other job does Stipe have?

Being a firemen might be the best possible job to juggle a fight career with. He will be sat on his ass in a station most of the time, or (probably in Stipes case) getting extra training in. Its not like he is busy 40 hours a week.
