Hence my "half full, half empty" comment. Fuck if I know which was "worse", both rank up there on the atrocity list. Can you quantify the 'worse' evil?

Notably Lynyrd Skynyrd stopped displaying the flag for a little while for the exact reasons you're saying don't exist.
That's what I meant. The widespread death and destruction that came from the Civil War is nothing compared to WWII. That's why I get irritated when people compare the Nazis and the Comfederates.
That's actually probably not the case. Decades back they talked about how they opposed Wallace and that the following lines actually sung are "boo, boo, boo". As I said they also recognized the racist connotations of the confederate flag. Also notably, Skynyrd's most famous song is retort to Neil Young's "Southern Man". Young sang about the continued legacy of slavery and racism in the south. Skynyrd's reply was to tell Neil Young to mind his own business, and declare their support for the racist governor George Walllace and his attempts to keep racial segregation alive.
Not today it isn't. Today the confederate flag is about freedom. Racist accusations is a strawman argument.
This is just laughable. The confederate flag is viewed as a symbol promoting racism because the civil war was primarily fought about the "states' rights" issue of owning black people. This isn't some manufactured view.Yes, the people propagating the notion that the confederate flag only stands for racism got to them.
Question is, in all those years Skynyrd used the confederate flag, did they ever do it because they meant to condone slavery?
It is obvious there is an ongoing struggle over what the confederate flag is supposed to represent. If your side wins, congratulations - we'll have another symbol promoting racism. We need more of those...![]()
The Nazis didn't slaughter the Chinese either.
Sure, but when you consider the death and destruction of the Atlantic Slave Trade and American slavery, including the Civil War, you are in comparable territory.
I totally agree with you that Axis actions were worse, but their are not so different as to be incomparable.

Union states had slaves. Is that flag racist? How about the foreign countries who sold slaves, are they racist too?
Most countries have long histories full of both great and terrible events.
The Confederacy is basically known for one thing, and it's awful. It's flag is going to be strongly associated with that one thing.

And here is the difference, most in the north it would seem only see the south in this way and those in the south see their history as much more then just slavery.
Haha, I love the "Southern pride" crowd. Frankly, I'd rather be proudly racist than proudly uneducated, unwashed, and stubbornly scared of change. Pick your point of pride.
What southern institution was being fought for by the confederacy? The only one even you have offered up is slavery.
Once again; self-governance.
