This is combat sports in one of its purest forms, why does anyone need characters and pseudo plot lines to build interest? My theory is that John and Dana have secret sextape together. And somehow Sam Alvey got it and is blackmailing Dana so even if he is on 7 fight losing streak he can't be cut.
Now Dana can't fire Sam and is good for John because if tape will leak he has more than them to lose.
