Strength Training for BJJ

Since im not planning into becoming a BJJ world champs im content with following a simple routine like 5x5, i like lifting as a hobby too since it pushes my physical limits,

But i dont really need extra strength at the point where i am, i just do it to maintain and for personal enjoyment. I really need to improve my cardio though.

Listen to your body, if you find yourself with your muscles burning out during rolling, then you most likely need more strength, if your breath gives out before your muscles get tired, then you most likely need cardio.

You could create a Google Drive account and upload it there, then share it with others who have Google accounts.

Or you can email it to me as an attachment. That would be super appreciated :)
PM me your e-mail, I've sent it to a couple other Sherdoggers already.

Upload to scribd?

Yes please upload to something like sendspace (free and no registration)

https://www.sendspace.com/
Lemme see what I can do and I'll try to post an upload if possible.
If not, I can always e-mail you a copy like I did for a few other folks.

Thank you, Harukaze.

(Figured I'd thank you here cause your PM is probably blowin' up.)

I got it too so thank you man!

As for the post I still believe in weights and cardio in addition to any martial art you are training. No I don't have world championship goals so rather than do 6 days a week of Bjj I get 3 days in of each and feel in great shape and feel steady improvement in my grappling. I think being the strongest fittest you always helps because, to borrow an acting axiom, on the mat all you have is you..so bring all of yourself to the party.

Harakuze, on another note, I recently started rolling at SB jiu jitsu on Saturdays. It's a good place and near you I believe

Strength training and diet are huge for me. To get the most out of strength training you really need a train program designed for you and your body type. Taking someone's training program and trying to copy what works best for them is like trying to barrow someone's glasses....they might fit perfect but more than likely they will not be a perfect fit. In general this approach works best for me
1. Keep my head right spiritually. That doesn't necessarily mean religiously.
2. Keep my diet right. Can't make chicken soup our of chicken poop
3. Keep my training challenging. Don't allow my body to completely adapt to a workout. Constantly change exercises. (that also keeps it fun and interesting)

Hope this isn't over kill.

This right here. Makes the most sense to me.

Strength training helps my bjj. I lift 3x per week. I keep it to basic compound movements and I run daily too.

To all those who requested a copy via e-mail, I've sent the PDF. Happy training!

You're very welcome, I hope you find the article useful!
SB Jiu Jitsu? Not familiar with that school; where is it? If it's in Santa Barbara, you've pegged me in the wrong place haha! :D
