Strength in Interesting Places

8 min rest between sets? Does Rippletoe advise that?

Don't take my lovin' advice from Rip. I only recognize one authority in the field of love. The authority that is the D.E.N.N.I.S. system:

Sadly, it does seem to be, on aggregate, a labour of Sisyphus: if you read the empirical literature on aid effectiveness, generally they can't find a correlation between aid spending and the intended outcome (usually economic growth). Sometimes they find these conditional effects, like "aid + good governance -> economic growth" but often they can't replicate those. And at any rate, just about the strongest line of investigation seems to suggest that good governance on its own is sufficient for economic growth. At the micro-level, though, it does seem to be possible to improve things, and I hope that some of the work I do falls into that category.

Do you want to get into international development? I'd be happy to share tips about career planning and career paths and so on. PM me if you'd like.

My plan for now is my Emerg Mngmt undergrad and then a Disaster Mngmt MA. Paired up with my paramedic/SAR background, I have sites set on international disaster relief NGO work.

But the thing is, I've always been interested in world economy/politics, and it seems like a lot of "stable" situations should in reality get the "pull out all the stops" disaster treatment to gain a favourable and timely outcome. But yeah, I have a long way to go. In 12-24 months I'm going to be doing some hunting for some top notch internship opportunities. I'll be a regular here and may very well take you up on your offer to share some knowledge, thanks!

None of that old-fangled non-modern guitar-based rubbish here....

This will doubtless please all the other trance fans who aren't out there... the opening track for new-ish Paul Van Dky album "Evolution".

Very light, very "up". A little like an Orbital track, which can only be a good thing.

One of my favorite TV moments of all time.

Not a tv show..lol I originall wrote movie, but

"You wanna dance brolio?"

"Haven't you seen any of my movies?? Juice, that's a good one. Deep Blue Sea? They ate me! A fucking shark ate me!"

I love Dave Chappelle, holy shit. I need to watch it again.

last one. But it is so epic. If you play cards with the Hulk. just let him win!

Ok THIS is the last one. I am watching this episode right now, and figured this part has to be shared.

Is that show any good, as in for adults (ok childish adults) ? or is it more of a kid-show?

I saw a few of these while bored. I thought it was a bit crappy really. Superhero stuff needs to have a sense of genuine danger to be interesting, but this is very much along the lines of typical 80s and 90s kids' cartoons where people are always super-punching or super-blasting each other and either are not affected or get temporarily stunned. Nice, clean, safe and sanitized.

alright, ill skip it then. Thats part of the reason why I used to watch anime, way more blood and crazy stuff thats not supposed to be in cartoons.
Allthough ive grown out of anime and it bores of me now.

Nothing really to add to this, but the song "One Night in Bangkok" playe twice on my way in this AM... I figured that meant something...

You should watch batman: the animated series. Very slick futurist art deco noir-ish design. If you're into that sort of thing..

Adult friendly.

Jaunty - moar lifting!

I'm a little behind on your log Jaunty, but best of luck with everything. I too lost a ton of weight with the divorce diet once. Wouldn't recommend it for everyone, but it is effective.

Jaunty - moar lifting!

I was off lifting for a while because I was injured and I was also in Pakistan and didn't have much access to gyms... but I've actually been back on a 3-day split. Not impressive because I am back to basically nothing on almost every lift, post injuries- but the lifting is happening. It's just that with the number of posts in this log, plus the regular conditioning, it's easy not to notice the lifting updates.
