Social Streaming vs physical copies - Which do you prefer?

I use to buy tons of DVD's until streaming came along. Physical DVD's are still pretty cool though.

Not huge on streaming, stopped collecting physical copies though.

Would still prefer it anyway.

Streaming is convenient, but I buy my favourite films in physical media so I can rewatch them whenever I want. Some are not always available, or you may not get the extended version online for example.

This. Nothing worse than a favourite movie just not existing on a streaming service, or when you decide to watch something you saw available but has since been removed.

Overall, streaming. I never had an interest in owning a physical copy of a movie.

Books are a different case. Sometimes I like holding a physical copy, sometimes I like reading Google Books on my computer screen. Both are their own experiences.

Physical, but I recently tried to watch my old Icon Sport DVD of Jason Miller vs Niko Vitale and don't know if disc problem or old player problem, but when I fast forwarded to the main event, it wouldn't play and would stop by itself.

Does your player allow firmware updates? I've had that cause discs to playback wonky, or not at all.

Streaming in all forms. You'd be surprised how much space this frees up in your home. I have book just waiting to be cleared out once the in laws pass on. So much space being wasted right now

I've got a while cupboard full of DVDs and Blu-ray's that I'm thinking about dumping.

Basically everything is available on a streaming service now at the touch of a button. It's a no brainer for me.

I do both about equally.

As far as films go, I'm all about physical media. I'm a collector & I want to watch my movies in their best possible video & audio presentation. So, I'm all about 4K UHD discs & when a film isn't available in 4K I'll get it on Blu-ray. And, occasionally, if it's a film that I really want to own & DVD is the only format it's available in I'll get the DVD.

Sure, there's a lot that's available via streaming. But there's still a ton of stuff that's not. And even if it is the streaming service might have a shoddy print or it might not be the uncut version or it might be on a service ( like Tubi or Plex ) that interrupts it with commercial breaks. No thanks. I'd much rather own my own copy & watch it as close to the way that the filmmakers intended as possible.

That's not to say that I don't use streaming services. Because I do. I love movies so I subscribe to Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max & Shudder. And if I discover a movie that I love on those services that I really love & want my own copy of, I buy it for my collection.

Now, when it comes to music & books, I'm thoroughly modern. I exclusively stream both now & have for several years. I don't own so much as a single CD & I haven't read a physical book in close to a decade. So, Youtube unlimited is my go-to for music & my Kindle Fire HD10 is my go-to for books.

What sort of television & player are you watching them on?

Had a c7 lg for a few years , then got an epic deal on a Sony A8H 65

my Surround sound is killer though . That’s where Dolby Atmos is like a hidden secret . 2 subwoofers is like therapy also

Nice. Very nice, indeed. I'm an LG guy, myself but from what I've seen & heard of that Sony model it's a thing of beauty.

I've got a 65" LG OLED from two years ago that I relegated to the bedroom once I got this year's model 82" for the living room. I had to do it because I fell in love with the Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos demonstration in the store. I also upgraded my older LG 4K Blu-ray player with a higher-end new model LG that supports Dolby Vision & Atmos. Now, everything looks & sounds amazing.

Firmware update caused problems or fixed problems?

Even UFC DVD's like a few years after release would be too stuttery and pixelly and not play.

I'm all in on streaming. Stream everything now. I just think it's more convenient but I do prefer a physical book to a kindle or tablet.
