Television Stranger Things 4 (New Trailer)

S5 generally good so far, about inline with previous seasons. Plot fatigue does drag it down a notch - recycling the same shit over and over gets old. Although you kind of forget what happened because you had to wait 10 years between seasons, so it kind of feels fresh again.

Didn't realize it was Linda Hamilton playing Dr. Kay. At 69, she looks more like Mathew Modine than Sarah Connor.

I’m really glad she’s still acting and that she’s specifically in this as it’s a nice homage to the type of films that shaped the Duffers and their sensibilities.

I recently rewatched the original Cameron Terminator, as well, and I’m just firmly committed to this notion- they can keep making Terminator movies but they will never, ever be as good as ‘84 or ‘91. Two absolute classics. I also love the first one even more than T2.

You’re right about the plot fatigue but overall I think it’s still very well done and entertaining. Interesting to see how they close it out. Four more episodes, even with some being well over an hour, is not a whole lot of time to work with.

Agree on T1 and also whoa you're right, there are only 4 episodes left. For some reason I thought it was 4 on Dec 25 and then 4 more on Dec 31, but it's 3 on Xmas day and then finale on Dec 31.

I really hope they don't
just have Will be the new eleven and deux ex machina all the bad guys and everyone lives happily ever after. They've only done that with El about 17,000 times. Whoopty doo she gets a bloody nose and now Neo Will got a bloody nose doing the same shit.

The Henry/nursery storyline from last season actually changed it up a bit and was pretty good, so hopefully they explain and make something different out of Will's powers other than El redux with a Moe from the 3 Stooges haircut

Theres also a live action Stranger Things Experience where youre actually inside the lab and the shopping mall and the Upside Down, getting attacked by the devil dog things and trying to figure out how to escape, I went to it in San Francisco, it was dope
Well that ain't canon. And if it ain't Fiona Apple canon then I don't give a rat's ass.

The wife and I have started watching this from the very beginning again. It has been so long between seasons that we totally forgot everything.
I remember everything (well, most of it to be honest) but seems the wife will tell me to re-download the whole effing series.

I'm enjoying the final season so far. There are issues, not least it being three years since season 4, which kills the momentum going in. I actually had to watch recap videos to get myself up to speed. Even then, I didn't recognise Kali until they showed the flashback.

But the main cast are fine in their roles, there's lot of 80's Nostalgia Porn for those of us who lived through the era and the story moves fast enough to keep me invested.

There are some nice homages to other films. Including, but not limited to,

- The booby-traps the Party set up for the Demogorgon resembles the scene in the OG Nightmare on Elm Street, and also features a monster attacking from another dimension and being defeated by a girl called Nancy.

- Vecna killing the two soldiers by pulling the pins on their grenades is an obvious homage to Magneto doing the same in X2.

- Eddie Munson's grave being defaced with the words, "Burn in Hell" is a reference to Carrie, of course.

It was good to see Vecna back, even if it took half the season. The scene where he effortlessly slaughters the soldiers was the highpoint of the season so far. Shoving his claws through the soldier's head and out his eyes was avatar worthy. And his sneering to Will that he, "broke so easily" makes Will going Full Doctor Strange at the end that much more satisfying.

For the last four seasons, the Party were reliant on Eleven to do the heavy lifting. Will the Sorcerer just surpassed her in one scene; El needs clear line of sight to use her telekinesis. Will killed killed multiple Demogorgons without even being in the same area as most of them.

All in all, I'm looking forward to the next four chapters.

And of course,

Agree with everything else, but I thought the booby trap scene was a mash up of Home Alone and OG Scooby Doo.

They should have done an "unmasking" of the demogorgon and it turns out to be Mathew Modine with morning breath.

I'm disappointed that the Duffer brothers didn't manage to get Arnold to appear in a cameo alongside Hamilton. ;)

Would have been epic if during the interrogation scene, Hopper was like, "I was a grunt, you're no grunt. THAT'S a grunt." Then he points to Private Schwarzenegger next to the Humvees, looking down the barrel of his own rifle trying to clean it, with his pants on backwards.

Or at least drop a reference to The Terminator...

Vecna, "Your clothes. Give them to me. Now!"

Soldier, "What?!"

Vecna, "Just kidding!(tears the soldier's heart out)" ;)

Looks like Vecna's been hitting the gym between seasons. He looks significantly more Jacked than in season 4.

Wife and kids watch this. I can’t get into it. Seems it’s multiple season with the same exact plot working around these kids hitting puberty.

Yeah, I watched season 1 and while I liked it (mainly based on the nostalgia factor), I also had no desire to pursue it beyond season 1.
