Stolen Valor question

The only place where you will find a large number of Army SOF is here at Ft Bragg. And I can assure you that literally no one around here gives a shit because there are so many people here who are actually "special ops."
Wrong place to bullshit about that....you gotta pick your spots! "You serve in the military? No? I'm Ranger Seal Delta team...wheww...it was hell back there in Nam...we lost a lot of good men. I don't like to talk about it." :D

Fucking Bragg

Fayetteville is my hometown lol

I came across a dude who I knew was regular army claim he worked out of 10th Group here. Was drunkenly yelling he was SF and I damn well knew he wasn't. I can't, for the life of me, understand why a soldier would want to claim a unit he doesn't belong to

Not just military. We get dudes faking the funk in full class A dress uniforms at FF and PD funerals.

Pretty sure people in those uniforms were fighting for your right to wear whatever the fuck you want. Imo it's only stolen valor if you're actively trying to impersonate military for personal gains.

Don't be that guy. Eventually, you'll get your ass kicked by a team guy.

Fucking idiot. 10th SFG is publicly known to be stationed in Germany and Carson (where the HQ is at). If I was going to BS at Bragg, I'd say either 3 SFG or SWCS. But even then, it's not a big community. It won't take long for someone to figure you out. And again, you won't impress a single person around Bragg with saying some shit about being SF. It'll be you and everyone else at that bar. Or if you claim to be SF at an 82nd bar or a Delta bar, you might wind up getting in a fight. Better to just shut up and enjoy your beer.

You've probably heard of Stolen Valor. It's where civilians pretend to be military for one reason or another. There are a million videos on YouTube where these guys get confronted.
Anyway, my question is, what's the threshold for impersonating military personnel? I wear fatigue pants I got from a surpluss store when I'm doing yard work. Is that enough? Surely not, right?
A follow up question to our military guys and girls on here, have you ever seen this first hand?

You can wear an entire military uniform once you put on name tapes that ID
You as us military and you are not it's stolen valor.

I was a support dude in 10th for the last 5 years. We're everywhere around here. Carson ain't that big of a base and 10th Group is a small community. Why yell that out loud where anyone in Group can hear you?!? He was a moron.

No doubt! It's all tongue-in-cheek for me, just to mock the phonies. I don't know enough about the military to even pretend. Hard to understand what would propel anyone to fake that, or anything else...other than just insecurities or mental illness.

I don't know a damn thing about Carson. And I'd never claim to be from 10 SFG. If I was going to pretend to be a tough guy, I'd pick a place where the tough guys are actually at ;)

They think it will get them chicks. Yeah, chicks totally dig hearing that you're operational and will be gone 10 months out of the year with either training or deployments. Because who doesn't want to have a relationship with their Skype app on their phones or computers?

I love the guys who go all out with this shit.

I've worn combats for most of my life. They're comfy as hell, durable and practical. They've also been a part of the punk/metal scene ever since I was a kid.

Valor is hereditary. My grandfather fought in WW2. I wear all his medals & my affliction shirt on 1st dates.

Having US military insignia is a fashion statement here. I occasionally see people wearing jackets with the US 2nd Infantry insignia on their shoulders. My guess is that they just think it’s cool and don’t realize that’s what it is.

Is it actually illegal or is it just disrespectful?
Also, if you're former military, do you always carry your military ID? Seems like that would be a quick way to prove that you are who you say you are.

if you're wearing a goretex top or rocking a day pack i'll ask oh you were in? most people will be like nah i got it from some relative. i'm also not gonna bust your balls if youre wearing camo pants or some shit. if youre walking around midtown manhattan in service alphas and its no where close to fleet week im gonna see if youre legit.
