Throwback Stipe's last fight

-Comes in at 230, giving up like 40 pounds of straight muscle to Francis
-Timid as hell, basically lost every exchange in the 1st round, always backing up (NOT his style at all, Stipe is a ring general type of fighter)
-Tries a telegraphed single leg, gets easily stuffed and ends up eating nasty clinch shots from Francis
-Round 2 comes around, Frank drops Stipe with a weird step in jab kind of punch, Stipe tries swinging with him, gets slept

You're gonna tell me that this guy - who's now almost 4 years older, who's been working full time as a firefighter for the last 2.5 years, is supposed to make for some kind of compelling fight with Jones?

Even at 6:1 odds it honestly looks like free money.

So based on the Jones/Reyes fight, betting on Gane should have been easy money, right? Worst Jones has ever looked, then a three year layoff...he shouldn't have had a chance.

1. Jones is an entirely different fight in every single way, there is no knockout threat at range. 2 it’ll be in a larger cage. 3. stipe didn’t just try ‘swinging with’ Francis, he rocked him and tried to jump on him.
I hope you're ready for all the crow you're going to have to eat after this fight.

have you seen many people picking stipe? I see very few people doing that. He’s a live dog and the odds are way off. I don’t see people straight up picking stipe
Stipe is in no way a live dog. He has no striking defense, no mobility, no path to victory on the ground, and nothing like the KO power he once had. The odds are off, but mostly because Jon should be -1000 or better.

He came in light for this fight, should have put the weight back on that he lost for DC and he ended up fighting an improved Francis as a smaller man in a smaller cage. It was a terrible miscalculation.

If you think he’s only here for a payday, you don’t know him very well.

Hoping Stipe shows up 240ish against Jones. 233 won’t cut it and will give Jones a chance in the wrestling

Everyone acting like they don't care about this fight, but Stipe winning would ripple through MMA space-time. Stipe sleeps Jon and calls out Tom after, you heard it here first.

Was a brutal and satisfying ko. Hard to not like Stipe, well it was, but I’d watched Francis for years and saw his potential, to see him put it together so perfectly the way other fighters had failed to do was great. He came in and threw a hellish low kick straight away with perfect technique, then stuffed all the takedown attempts ensuring Stipe had no path to victory, then flatlined him. Probably would have killed Jones

I don't know anyone who thinks Stipe has a legit chance.

The only one's trying to sell Stipe as a legit threat are the UFC and jon.

The jury is still out on Jones at heavyweight. We haven’t seen enough of him at the weight class to really say.

What crow? Crow for saying stipe is a live dog and has a way better chance than people think? Yeah sure, if he loses I’ll say he lost.

lol stipe always had good defense, but that and his fantastic mobility have probably worsened with age

Of course he has the same KO power as evidenced by catching Francis before running into the hook

Aren't you just inadvertently agreeing with OP?

Stipe's mobility and defense have obviously lost form, as evidenced against Francis and even his 3rd fight with DC (which both men looked like shit, let's face it).

In his prime this same mobility would have made it interesting against Jones. He just don't have it anymore.

Well Jon, the UFC, and the low IQ fanboys who are still playing make-belief that this is prime Stipe.
true,

I more than anyone hope that Stipe can pull off the hail mary upset but not likely.

I'm interested in Charles vs Chandler fight but not much else on this card.

There’s a reason why the odds are so long here. 42 isn’t young. But the odds are way off and this is still a good fight.

Jones isn’t Francis. Stipe isn’t 230 pounds and this isn’t in the apex.
