Dude Stipe wasn't winning until he got KO'd. Cormier was measuring him early and letting Stipe "control" the wrestling against the cage. He even said he wanted to feel Stipe's strength and get used to it, and let him tire out a little bit.

Cormier literally was holding back until he got a feel for Stipe's power, speed, timing, and range. You could see after ~2-3 mins that Cormier became much more confident once he had Stipe figured out. That wasn't Stipe winning the fight so much as Cormier holding back and gathering info.
