Now from the very beginning, I have been hearing that he is a Golden Gloves winner. While after doing some research, I didn't see him anywhere in the list of Super Heavy, Heavy or Light Heavyweight golden gloves winner.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_US_national_Golden_Gloves_heavyweight_champions
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_US_national_Golden_Gloves_super_heavyweight_champions
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_US_national_Golden_Gloves_light_heavyweight_champions.

And someone on /r/MMA mentioned that he was winner of a local Golden Gloves event. Which doesn't mean much.

BTW usually Wikipedia mentions the amateur boxing records of the said athlete, if the said athlete had any (ALA Cro Cop). But I never saw his amateur records, which raises some eyebrows.

He clearly has boxing skills regardless of if he won golden gloves or not, he has more boxing skills than Werdum has muay thai skills.

I clearly remember them saying on UFC countdown show when he fought JDS, that he is a golden gloves champion. he certainly has very fast and crisp hands for HW.

Reminds me of hearing how Brendan Schaub was a Golden Glove winner

He won the Clevand Golden Gloves tourney or maybe it was even the Ohio State. Nothing on the national level.

He plays touch butt with dorks in the park, with pony tails.

His hands are good, you can tell he has a boxing background

What's your problem, fanboy? You think Werdums sloppy Muay Thai is world class?
Lol fanboy... You really think stipe' boxing is soooooo great, that it would nullify the kicks, the knees, the clinch, the elbows, and the hands of werdum? you're buying into the hype. Stipe was never known as a boxer until recently. He was considered a wrestler for so long. He doesn't even have any amateur boxing credentials for crying out loud.

Werdum doesn't have amateur Muay Thai credentials, he has zero punching power and his muay thai is sloppy as shit, Stipes boxing isn't great but it's good.

Whatever his credentials he has good hands. He held pace with jds who had been widely regarded to be the best boxer at hw

I've spent more time that I should have pretending to be Sherlock Holmes on this but here's what I've found

From what I can gather he won the Cleveland Amateur Golden Gloves 2009 201lbs+ title then went to the National Golden Gloves 2009 where he went 2-1 losing to a boxer called Bryan Jennings in the quarter finals (although one article refers to Miocic as a semifinalist).

The best info comes from a user who posted the schedule and results for the Cleveland Amateur Golden Gloves 2009 here: http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=99386
FINALS for CLEVELAND AMATEUR GG:
...
165 Terell Guasha
178 Joshua Krosen
201 Marc Ward
201+ Stipe Miocic

along with the results of the 2009 National Golden Gloves Quarter Finals posted here: http://dcboxing.blogspot.co.uk/2009/05/2009-national-golden-gloves.html
201+lbs. division
Lenroy Thompson, Kansas City, def. Serhiy Karpenko, Upper Midwest, 4-1
James Shorter, Toledo, def. Toby Batie, Iowa, 5-0
Bryan Jennings, Pennsylvania, def. Stipe Miocic, Cleveland, 5-0
Julian Pollard, New England, def. Shaun Seymore, Cincinnati, 5-0

He has zero punching power but his kicks and knees breaks bones and drops guys like mark hunt. That's why you sound dumb as hell when you say stipe's boxing skills are better than werdums Muai Thai. It's not just about punching. Stipe's only chance is to land a big shot and ko werdum. Werdum can beat him from anywhere. On the ground, in the clinch, at a distance. His top game is better, and his guard is better.

His boxing is good by MMA HW standards. However when taken out of his comfort zone ie slipping in and out on the edge of range he doesn't like it.
