I think the trilogy is justified. It's more justified than Holloway-Volk imo, and yes this one is back to back for DC-Stipe. Who else really deserved the shot? Ngannou?

Sorry, I know he has a rising Sherdog Cult following now but you don't deserve a title shot after knocking out two geriatric nursing home fighters who are more washed than Sammy Sosa's skin after he randomly turned white, and then one win over a guy was coming up but ehhh not exactly elite.

This was the fight to make imo. Ngannou could have got a title shot for sure, but didn't deserve it over DC per se.

Yes he fought Lewis, but this trilogy has been tedious imo.

As far as a potential Stipe vs Francis 2 goes, I look at it like this:

Who has been a better cage fighter since they fought? That's why ppl who are picking Francis are picking him.
That's a reasonable metric to go by, at least to me it is.

I think Ngannou has done enough to now be considered the #1 contender after this title fight pretty easily, or in a #1 contender match for sure at bare minimum and that's sort of fucking him over.

But I will disagree, because outside of Blaydes...what proves he will fare any better? He beat the shell of Cain Velasquez who was fighting his 3rd fight in 6.5 years since the JDS win in 2013. He beat JDS who was also significantly washed. Rozenstruik was a good win I guess.

Ngannou also lost on the same exact card where DC beat Stipe for the title I'm pretty sure, so it's not like he was riding high during this whole timeline either, he's now on a 4 fight win streak but two of those wins are sketchy and two of those wins are over two non-elite guys at HW. Blaydes is one dimensional unlike Stipe, he sucks at striking comparatively.

But yeah just have to see the fight itself then. Not sure if Stipe will even be fighting by the time it happens, I see him and DC both retiring after this title fight potentially.
 
Hard to know how much improvement was made in terms of wrestling for Francis but time works in his favor. The older Stipe gets, the more damage and mileage he'll have taken. Getting knocked out by Francis gets likelier.

With mass like his, it's tough to ever be very enduring and he's still firmly an explosive athlete. Hard to imagine he could've changed that. Again, it'll all depend on Stipe's ability to survive the first two rounds.

But wrestling alone isn't the blueprint to beat Francis, otherwise Blaydes wouldn't have lost twice against him. It goes deeper than that.

the difference being that ngannou TAGGED stipe couple of times, and was near KOing him twice in the fight, Dan was no where near KOing GSP. We can AV bet on the rematch if u want.

Ngannou is devastating but predictable.

Stipe has no problem whipping guys who fall in line with his game plan.

Ngannou should avenge his loss against Lewis.
 
Ngannou wasn't really humbled or embarrassed IMO.

He's a guy who has very limited combat sports experience, yet he was the only person that Stipe hasn't finished in a win since like 2013.

Also, all of the hype for Ngannou that people were so angry about after the fact only helped Stipe, who refuses to promote fights and would be incapable of doing so with his mumbling even if he were so inclined.
 
Ngannou will be dangerous for anyone due to his KO power and wild punches, but Stipe is the better fighter and should win the matchup 7/10 times

Sigh... why do I even bother, but here it goes...

Those last two rounds where just lay n pray and the story was told. Fused together in my mind. Whatever. Frank landed on Stipe. That's my whole point. Do you know what happened to other guys who Frank landed on? 15 shots in the 1st round. And STIPE REMAINED PUNCH DRUNK THE ENTIRE FIGHT. My whole point.
