Stipe Miocic - have I missed something?

Stipe has taken a lot of damage in his last few fights. He probably even wants a slight step down in competition to get a confidence boost and give his brain a break before he gets back in there with Ngannou or possibly Gane. He's 39 and doesn't have too long left it seems.
Stipe vs Volkov could be a good match. Both are rather somewhat static fighters who don't move around the ring much, and are robotic in the approach to their striking.

Nope, gotta look at the ENTIRETY of the evidence. 5 rounds or 25 minutes of evidence from the first fight plus 1.5 rounds or 7 minutes in the 2nd fight. Miocic is one of the most deserving champions of an immediate rematch in UFC history. Especially now that we've seen the current champ naganoo DUCK Lewis at the beginning of the summer, and duck Gane at the end of the summer to accumulate a history of only fighting 1 fight per year as the champ so far. Pretty sad. No wonder the UFC already awarded an interim championship belt to someone who would represent the title better.
Past fight don't matter over current skill levels. That was made obvious in the rematch. You can't keep holding on to wins from the past and using that as your metric for current match making. The fight to focus on is their rematch because that is the most current and their most current skillset. The Ngannou from the 1st fight is not the same Ngannou in the rematch skill wise.

Stipe is still in the title picture, if Ngannou loses he has an option to skip the line and fight Gane. That's only if he loses, so if Ngannou wins Stipe will have to rack up a win or 2 before trying to get a trilogy fight. You can't exhaust the trilogy option so soon with no fights in between, unless some freak accident happened and there needs to be an instant match to to get a end to fight with no controversy.

Ngannou had to rack up wins before he was granted the rematch, he could've got it way sooner but Stipe wasn't giving him that opportunity until he was forced to. He will get the same treatment from Ngannou that Stipe showed him. Plus there is no interest in the fight currently from the results of the rematch. He needs to build hype by having an impressive win. Not many people think the results will change unless they see something new from Stipe that may change the outcome of the fight. Right now what people are using as a metric is their last fight and Stipe's last performance. If he's currently making improvements he needs to show it.

sorry, but when you put a career of belt defenses together, and you JUST LOST THE BELT, your body of work is way more important. For instance, ngannnoo has no belt defenses and got cocky, making demands and trying to control the conversation. His lack of championship resume, ducking fighters and shitty attitude resulted in him getting disciplined by having an interim belt fight between the two guys he ducked earlier in the year. His last fight was a dominating win, and he still got totally disrespected. So no, the "what have you done for me lately" argument has been demonstrably dismissed with regard to UFC matchmaking.

Yea - let that rest aa bit...

Let Stipe get a win (pref 2) and the division shake up a bit more.

Instant rematches should be exceptionally rare (imo). I hate this constant flashback bullshit...

Stipe holds the record for most wins in heavyweight title fights along with the longest title defending streak in the heavyweight division. Arguably one of the greatest Heavyweights in UFC History.

Yet what I don’t understand is this, how can he hold those accolades and yet not be given an immediate rematch for his title after a loss? Case in point..

He loses by KO to Cormier, rather than give Stipe the immediate rematch he deserves off the back of his impressive Heavyweight run, DC is allowed to defend against Derrick Lewis before running it back with Stipe.

He then gets his rematch with Cormier and wins via TKO…. Cormier (company man/shill) is then given immediate rematch with Stipe ??

Stipe eventually lose title in his rematch with Ngannou (going 1-1) and seems to be out in the wilderness with barely a mention at fighting to get his belt back again. Instead we’ve got Gane and Ngannou.

Have I missed something? Do the UFC or Dana have something against Stipe? You’d think a heavyweight with the accolades stipe has in the UFC would get treated slightly better and more respectfully.
He is good but tends to fight once a year.
When he gets the belt, the division is slowed sown

Because he's black

Stipe got an immediate rematch against DC and might get a shot at the Ngannou/Gane winner.

Stipe is older and has two young kids. He needs time off. I'm sure when he comes back, the UFC will give him a premier fight -- likely Jones or a title shot.

The Lewis fight was a short notice/camp fight DC only took because he thought it was so easy for him with his wrestling.

Stipe and his fans are some of the most entitled cry babies

Champs don't deserve immediate rematches, especially when you get embarrased and outclassed like Stipe did

stipe was winning the first DC fight, even controlling the wrestling then got caught on a break. A rematch in that case was a lil more justified. Frankis on the other hand was plooking stipe up in every aspect of their last fight and then shadow realmed him. It was apparent that stipe could do absolutely nothing to frankis in their second fight. A rematch in that case makes way less sense.

Them being 1-1 against each other is not enough to justify an insta rematch considering that stipe beat an early not yet fully developed frank n how 1 sided of a beat down it was once stipe fought frank 2.0. Stipe also being 40 and will only be worse and worse as each day goes by while frank is still improving is another reason.

Dude couldn’t even sell out his home stadium/venue.
He fought Overeem in Cleveland, and that arena looked packed to me. Stipe has always filled arenas as the champion. It’s the ppv buys that are lacking. But, nobody at HW has been a massive ppv star in the UFC except Lesnar.

what you have missed is that stipe is a man of honor and integrity and doesn't have much respect for dana and it pains dana to know that so dane fucks him over. dana also hates that stipe wont act like a clown for the clown show.

it would have been the same with fedor compounded by a factor of 10. oil and water or in danas case "shit".

He is a simple guy. He is happy being the hometown hero. He is quite underrated because he is quiet. He had quite a good streak going on. He beat Hunt, AA, Werdum, Overeem, JDS and Francis. I remember him being the huge underdog against Werdum and he shut everyone up.

Because the UFC and Stipe never got along, and they have other profitable title fights to make now.

I’m not saying everyone should get immediate rematches. But if you’ve been on a run and have the accolades Stipe has in the Heavyweight division, an exception should be made for his individual case. In my opinion.
He already got one vs DC.

As a Stipe fan..

He got his one freebie rematch with DC.

He needs to fight a contender this time to rematch or fight for the title again. I’m no hypocrite. What’s fair is what’s fair. He needs to fight.
Yep. He holds no cards here.

People might love it when a fighter is open critical of the UFC,but this is what happens when you lose the belt after you do that.

He cried and sit out and got an instant rematch again Cormier after going KO'ed. DC just happened to squeeze in a fight with Lewis because UFC needed a title fight. Stipe still got a rematch without fighting anyone else.

Cormier got the rematch against Stipe because it was going to be his retirement match.

It looks like Stipe is doing the same thing again and is refusing to fight anyone but the champ. How this guy has any fans is beyond me.
Good one, I forgot DC stepped up to save their asses against Lewis. What a mismatch ha

This new instant rematch dynamic has taken on a life of its own over the past few years and it is getting kind of ridiculous.

The UFC for sure never really liked Stipe but if I recall Stipe declined an immediate rematch or didn't want to step back in so Lewis was offered the fight.

You recall incorrectly, Stipe offered to fight DC then but was told by the UFC that DC was unavailable. And DC went out of his way to say that he wouldn't have fought Stipe then, as he still wasn't fully recovered from breaking his hand when last they fought...but since Lewis presented fewer issues as a challenger he could take him on.
