Still can't believe Forrest was the Champ

I see where you’re coming from, but Forrest with his physique and style had the ability to beat most of the top fighters. His biggest problem was fast fighters like Silva. Machida would’ve embarrassed him too. Hell, he even admitted he’d lose that fight had they fought.

Alot of guys didnt want no part of Machida. He made guys look absolutley ridiculous. Especially then, when the puzzle didnt seem solveable.

Why the hell are people calling Robbie Lawler a journeyman? ICON, Superbrawl and Elite XC champ, UFC welterweight champ with defenses and long term contender. Am I missing something?

People love to throw that term out there and have no idea wtf it means.

He beat Shogun post knee surgery and overweight rampaging Rampage. Who just split up with Juanito, who changed his style to TDD and counter boxing. Then had the rematch with Shogun, when Rua, well not in peak form, was better than in their first fight.

The Tito fights were closer to Forrest's level.

It has different meanings to be fair
Yeah true that, but I would like to think people wouldnt use it for guys who actually have won the belt, let alone, fuckin defended it.

Yea not at that point, but Robbie had a long career. He wasn't always champ level. He had those win-lose big fights times in smaller shows as well.

Sure but who is always at champ level? His 2nd UFC run is mostly excellent up until the RDA loss.

True, just few. GSP. Khabib. Robbie had those journeymanlike times in his career, in between the UFC runs. But he's not a career journeyman because he was #1 WW in the world for like 2 years.

He had great cardio, and he's a big guy for the division. He was a big weight cutter and regularly weighed close to 230lbs in cage. He was very close in size and build to Stipe, who is the UFC HW GOAT. Forest was just a tough guy to finish in his prime, and he would get stronger as the fight went on.

People always remember him from the Anderson fight, but Forrest had been in too many wars at that point. His style of blocking punches with his face tends to not work out in the fight game longevity department. Anderson beats any version of him regardless, but not like that.

Plus the guy had an atlantian physique at 205, even if he had a face like squirrel monkey.
He gets little respect probably because he was too self deprecative also.
I met the guy at a signing and he was huge.

Had an old mate with me, was a bit of a tool and loved to pump weights. He was 5’10 and about 95kg so in pretty decent average dude shape. He and was the type to watch UFC and see LHW and say shit like that’d be my division. When posing for the photo he did the arm around put his fist up and got a little close to Forrests face and he grabbed his fist and pretended to hip toss him. My friend absolutely shit Himself and realised Forrest could have had his way with him

The "big 4" at LHW(Evans, Rampage, Machida, Shogun) were a combined 26-2 in the UFC against non Big 4 fighters before Jones came along. Both losses are to Forrest Griffin. Another thing that's overlooked is he was winning the fight against Evans before Evans got him down. I think Machida's the best of the big 4 and he loses after that regardless but he had a good run.
Just looked it up for fun the big 4 in the Zuffa Era between 2014 (Cormier+Rumble debut) and 2017 (Dc vs Jones Rematch)
Jones,Rumble,Gus and Cormier are undefeated against opponent outside of the big 4 (you could add glover to the mix it would just add 1 loss)

I miss the unsolved puzzle Machida.

I think everyone underestimated Forrest.

He beat Shogun and Rampage back to back, when Shogun was the best LHW.

He had great kicks, great cardio, underrated TDD.

He just found ways to win when the odds were stacked against him.

Shogun was out of shape coming off one of his many knee surgeries and gassed. The Shogun that turned up to the Machida fights would have murdered Forrest.

I can't believe most of the champs today are champs

weight bully with limited skill. Shogun had a torn acl if I recall correctly. He was not half the MMA Shogun was though...
