STFU with the interim title nonsense

Connor McGregor went up in weight for this title fight, so he deserves to get something if he wins against a top fighter at 155llbs. Otherwise, he isn't being rewarded enough for the trouble of putting on muscle and going up. Giving him an interim title if he wins doesn't take anything away from RDA, who has the real belt. I think this should happen all the time when someone doesn't show up to fight due to injury.
To do that would just be admitting that an interim belt is meaningless, you might as well just have one in every division just in case the champ has to pull out once.
He definitely shouldn't be getting an interim belt for fighting Diaz

What bobthebuilder said, plus:

Conor is undefeated in the UFC, on a huge MMA win streak, a former 155 champ outside the UFC, was betting favorite against champion RDA, and is a mega star.

People shouldn't have a problem with him fighting for an interim title.
None of that has anything to do with an interim title. There's no need unless you're going to strip the champ, which shouldn't happen unless hes been out for a year

If they do an interim belt here that belt becomes even more of a joke. UFC is just handing those out at this point.

TS, you do realize that RDA keeps his belt if they make an interim belt right?

Faber vs Conor for dat belch
- loser gets CM Punk for the intercontinental title
winner holds the red panties money in the bank

It does have something to do with an interim title.

Titles are for the best fighters. Conor being undefeated, on a huge win streak, a former champ, and betting favorite is evidence of his fighting skills. If he were to destroy a top 155er and not get a title, then he'd in a way be the uncrowned champ so it'd be dishonest to not recognize that in an official capacity by giving him a title. His star value is about something else, and that's that the UFC want stars for champions.

No, they shouldn't make Conor interim champ if they strip RDA. If they strip RDA then Conor would fight for an undisputed title. The interim part is what's used if RDA remains as champ. And that's obviously what should happen here.

RDA just DEFENDED his title 3 months ago this fight was a FAVOR if you ask me. Most champs other than Conor now and Ronda ever fight every 3 months with their belts on the line. If the ufc strip RDA of the title because he got HURT training for this fight then they are a bunch of assholes. give rda a break this is a horrific injury at the worst time, but at least he wanted to fight right away and was ready to do so until Friday.

You're right, this fight was a FAVOR - a FAVOR from Conor to RDA. Conor gave him the gift of a red panties night - major PPV headliner instead of free TV spot, and RDA bailed. If you signed on the dotted line to defend your belt on a given date and you don't show up, you failed to defend your belt, period. It shouldn't even be for an interim belt, it should be for the actual LW belt and this should be standard practice for any champion who fails to defend his or her belt for any reason. It is the fighter's responsibility to stay healthy and ready.

No, interim title fights are created when a champ is out for at least 1 year.

They're stripped after 2 or 3 years like Cruz was.

There's no reason for an interim unless the champ is completely inactive, and Conor's popularity has nothing to do with it. He wouldn't be an uncrowned champ, because he hasnt fought the champ (especially considering he will either be fighting someone the champ recently destroyed, or Nate Diaz). If this wasn't Mcgregor there would be literally no one calling for an interim belt, and the only reason they want to have one is so they can say Mcgregor holds 2 belts, when the reality is that an interim belt is nothing more than a number one contenders ticket

Ok, but they really should be stripped after a year if they don't fight. The Cruz and Cain situation shouldn't of happened

Being stripped of your belt because of one injury sounds a little insane to me...

ACL injuries usually take you out for 1 year.

If that was the case you wouldn't even need interim belts anymore since you just strip the champion after 1 year without fighting.

You get an interim belt! You get an interim belt!

Everybody gets an interim belt!

Lolololol I was legit about to post this

If you can't fight for a year, then its unnecessary to hold up a division. You just end up with cases like Barao being viewed as a more legit champ than Cruz.
Hopefully it would get guys to train more intelligently too, some of the stupid shit some of these guys do and its no wonder they can't finish a camp

Make it for an interim belt, RDA isn't getting stripped who cares. Wouldnt it be relegated to co-main if no belt on the line??

Conor fought and won the interim belt at 145 and everybody was talking shit. Then he won the belt anyways. I bet the same thing happens here. Much ado about nothing. Its a interim belt because the Champ screwed everybody over. The Champ still has his real belt so, who gives a shit. Conor will probably win anyways.

Also, Frankie lost 2 title fights in a row then got another immediate title shot. Everybody would lose their mind if they did that for Conor.

Fortunately you're not running things. We'd just have belt after belt being stripped and changed ownership, wasting it's importance. Fighters should earn their championship belts from the champions. Imagine the travesty if the UFC can just put Urijah Faber for a LW belt fight against McGregor now. Imagine two guys who don't even compete in LW fighting for the LW title. Maybe that makes for good TV in the bolanos world, but I prefer my champions to have merit.
