What the hell was that? This was almost as bad as Buck's callout of Conor. Max doesn't even fight at 145 anymore, and seems to have accepted Olive's callout for the BMF fight.

Add to that, Youssef Zalal is standing right there in Onama's corner, and five minutes ago, was calling out Garcia's tells.

Missed opportunity imo. I just hate when fighters whiff like this and do terrible callouts that make no sense.

Anyone ranked 8-11 would have also made sense and went over well.

Agreed -- I like his message at the end, but that was a shitty call-out.

Can you blame a guy on a 7-fight streak for calling out a former champ?

Sometimes I get surprised about how casual some fighters are, like, they don't know about others fighters or the division

Holloway maybe is the only fighter he knows besides Volk lol

But he said later that the called out was because he dreams about a history like Rocky Balboa

It baffles me that there are fighters on the verge of bigger things who know absolutely nothing about the organization for which they compete. Comes off as completely amateur. There’s no excuse for this. No one in his camp or his manager didn’t coach him?

As bad as his callout was, what was worse was Onama, he literally didn't fight.

Yeah Onama looked terrible. Ranked up there with worst performances in a marquee fight.

Jean Silva was the correct callout to make. He jumped the gun with the Max callout, but at least he planted the seed. He could definately be that dude that retires Max.

Yep.

We all know some of these guys don't watch or follow the sport, but they do have people around them who do... there's no real excuse for fluffing your call out.

When he calls out a guy who says hes done with the weight class entirely, yeah kinda. Wasted his mic/camera time with a call out that has like a 1% or less chance of coming to fruition.

Guys we literally had people on here that did not know who either Garcia or Onama were, are you seriously shocked Steve decided to call out one of the more recognizable names in FW? Regardless of Max being done with the weight that call out does more for Garcia in terms of having his name out there than Jean Silva, Arnold Allen or someone near his ranking.

You guys overestimate how much the average UFC fan cares about remembering fighters who aren't fighting for titles.

TBH I thought the only wrong answer here was "Steve Garcia".

Then Steve Garcia named someone in a different weight class.

Shows what I know.

There are a lot of recognizable names in the FW division, including former champions that aren't Max Holloway, who is a lightweight that is near a title shot.

I dont get how it "does more" for him than calling out Jean Silva, who is a topical, active fighter that is pushed by the UFC who could plausibly fight Garcia. What exactly did calling Max Holloway out do for him? If not for this thread I'd have no idea he even done that.
