Media Stephen Thompson admits he will be "disappointed" if the UFC does not pay him for UFC 291

Do you have a copy of his contract? It could very well state "show" is paid for stepping into the cage.

They way he is talking with saying he "hopes the UFC does the right thing" rather than "my contract says" makes me think you're wrong

That wasn't my point. I said he fulfilled his contractual obligations to make weight. Fight was cancelled due to frustration by Pereira, so Thompson would be likely entitled to damages for loss of income.

Contractual rights don't just vanish

The 20-30% of the opponents purse if they fight is the punitive damage for someone breaking contract BUT you agree to fight them. Receiving full pay when your opponent fails to show up per contract when you have should be a given.

Wonderboy needed to: Complete a full fight camp, bring in training partners, diet, travel, make weight.

He fulfilled the contract and unless there's verbage saying you are required to accept a catch weight fight when you opponent fails to cut weight, he should be paid in full.

Again you're assuming UFC doesn't have contact language regarding a fight being cancelled for this reason. You think UFC and their lawyers didn't anticipate something like this?

All about the unions and contracts.
Every major US sport has a union.
A demoted first string QB still gets paid. The UFC is ridiculous.

He should get half his pay I feel like. He did the work and made weight but he didn't fight so let him get half. Slide it to him privately and let this go away.

He should be paid for media appearances and for the training camp. It's not his fault that his opponent missed weight.

If by "contract language" you mean an obligatory waiver of rights, no that would be what's called an onerous term/condition.

They are unenforceable on public policy grounds

You're contradicting yourself.

You just said "his contract is to fight at Peireira at 170 pounds"

He did not fight. That contract was not fulfilled. That not being his fault is irrelevant. He would never win in court, hence why he hasn't and doesn't need to be paid a dime.

I actually agree with you they are under no legal obligation since the fight didn't happen and the UFC has very specific language absolving them of any responsibility when a fight is canceled. That's why I don't agree with pushing for win money.

But from a public image perspective, the UFC cancelling a fight on 24 hours notice should absolutely justify compensation imo when he and his team made the trip and fulfilled their obligations to date.

Wonderboy should show up for his next fight and not even attempt a weight cut. Fuck Dana

I understand that perspective of it. Shitty situation all around.

Every Major sport has gone on extended boycotts for their Union. When have UFC fighters done that? UFC isn't ridiculous the athletes are, they are welcome to go on strike and force a union, like they have talked a out numerous times, but nobody has balls.

Remember this? LMAO

No I mean language that states, "you will receive your show money upon setting foot in cage, if for any reason you are unable to do so, you will not receive your show money. Show pay may be received at the discretion of the UFC depending on the circumstances for inability to enter the cage"

The wrestling days I had morning of weigh ins vs night before weigh ins were night and day in terms of performance. The difference in cardio and strength is massive getting that night to rehydrate and eat compared to only a couple hours. Hell, there were 2 other guys on my team in the same weight class as me that I'd normally bully with ease because I was much more muscular than them that all of the sudden I was going 50/50 with as my tank would just be gone so quickly if I didn't pin them quick.

And I was only cutting 22lbs at my highest.

I mean, anybody with a bath tub at home could right now just go take a 1-1.5hr bath that's as hot as they can stand if they want to experience even a fraction of what it's like to cut weight. Do that and you'll lose 5-7lbs. You'll also probably nearly pass out getting out of the tub. Or actually will if you've never tried this. You'll need to lay down for sure and do nothing for awhile as you'll be weak, exhausted, and sweating for the next couple of hours and you don't get to chug a Gatorade to fix it.

Congrats. Now do it 2-3 more times until you're on weight.

What does that do to your blood pressure?

What does that do to your blood pressure?

Never measured it so don't officially know. But I mean anecdotally you certainly feel the blood pumping more when you do this. You'll be well aware of how much your heart's pumping compared to your everyday life where you don't even notice it.

In fact if you do get woozy it's pretty much all you'll be aware of and concentrating on. It's honestly a bit how I imagine death will be like as you're so acutely aware of your heart's pumping and just willing and praying it to continue beating as you know you're right on the edge of passing out and you won't notice if you do until you come to (hopefully of course). Which yeah, I've had happen a few times which is why you gotta carefully and slowly get out of the tub and don't stand up. That's a near sure fire way to pass out given you'll suddenly be changing all your blood flow from horizontal to vertical. Get out slowly and just lay on the ground for awhile, then still slowly move about to somewhere nicer than the hard tiles. Crawl if you need to.

Fun times.

I doubt they pay him. It will just encourage fighters to drop the fight when opponent misses weight.

Move on kids.

Some of you claim a lot of shit without understanding an ounce of what is happening.

There is his pay... for not fighting. 3 fights offered and turned down, per year.

There is his pay... for PUTTING ON THE FIGHT SHOW. Accepting a NEW FIGHT CONTRACT.
This has a SHOW purse for the PERFORMANCE.
You simps think interviews and weighins, or even HEALTHCARE needed ... is the fight/show money?

He passed on the show, with good reason,
but also passed on BONUS money from the fine.
So ... it's not about money.

He obviously accepted the fight, but it didn't happen. This is what a contract is all about.

His manager is now trying to get SHOW money.
The UFC ... is trying to pay "annual" payout when NOT fighting.
The same as rejecting 3 fights a year. The MINIMUM amount of his pay.

Fuck the UFC through and through, fuck Dana white...
but realistically. Wonderboy will get paid either way.

The fan UPSET should be / was, the night of the fight.
For passing on the fight. He later explained a logical reason.
It wasn't about the money.

He will OBVIOUSLY be paid... and it was be LESS than the fight purse
(because the fight didn't happen), AND he will be rescheduled ... for SHOW money.
Technically, he is going to make more money in the next 3-6 months,
than he originally intended.

This is why they have managers, meetings a week later.

We are no longer living the locker room bonus era.

NSAC also has a SAY about the fight purse, the weigh in, and the promotional behavior.
