Media Stephen Thompson admits he will be "disappointed" if the UFC does not pay him for UFC 291

Show money seems fair. imo.

I don't know if I'm on board with the precedence of win money as well, but certainly he should get something.

Show money when he chose to not show?

Even the precedence of giving show money seems sketchy for a business to me.
You don't want guys thinking they can get an easy pay cheque and not be company men when they have larger "show" contracts.

Zero sympathy for wonderboy after he's been trying to cherry pick fights. I've always been a big fan.

He should of played hoops like his brother Klay

But he did show and made weight. Pereira, and by extent the UFC, failed to live up to their end of the deal of providing an opponent who made weight.

He had a deal. He had a contract in place. To cancel/alter that contract within 24 hours of the fight after he took the steps of proving eligibility seems like he should be due compensation for his time invested.

Tell him that he only gets his 291 money if he fights Shavkat. Then he'll get paid 2 for 1.

Reading some of these responses is so disheartening. The future looks bleak. The amount of people and the lengths they will go to in order to defend their masters... How has it come down to this? Just sad...

They pay people to be backups make weight all the time. They should pay him something. If anything, he played a part in the marketing for the event. We all don't know all the details involved. Makes you wonder if there was a backup and if any options were given to Wonderboy.

The show money means show up to fight, which he chose to not show.
His contract is to being paid to fight. He chose to not fully fulfill the contract.
Stephen had options. He chose an option which he thought was morally correct, but by no means was it an option where he should be compensated.
The other option meant more compensation than his contract would have been agreed at.

Thompson made weight and fulfilled his contractual obligations. His opponent is a can and did not.

He's under no obligation to go above and beyond his contract for a shit-tier organization that will happily kick him to the curb whenever they like. He should be paid his show money but I fully expect Uncle Goof and the boys to act like bitter 12 year old girls.

Again, he did show up. His contract was to fight Michel Pereira at 170 lbs. Peireira, and by extent the UFC, failed to live up to their end of the contract.

If you don't want to pay show money, contract fighters that can make the weight or adjust your weight cutting rules.

He showed up, ready to fight, as he agreed to in the contract.

Ready to fight is not actually fighting.

I have no idea why so many of you are struggling with this unless you're just lying. You can feel bad about the situation without moving the goalposts.

it would behoove the UFC to pay him to keep up appearances. its not a good idea to stiff a fan-favorite fighter. plus it isnt Wonderboy's fault that Periera came in overweight.
contractually obligated or not, its a good PR move to keep your audience draws happy.

People will still cut for same days, people already cheat hydration tests. Your third idea is interesting, no clue if it would work. I'd say 5 lbs fuck em. You have a 5lb swing from weighins to fight time.

The positive in a way about same day weigh ins is for the fighters that due manage to cut a massive amount it's REALLY going to effect their performance.

I do know hydration like tests can be cheated but sadly I have no clues on a work around.

And hell even regaining 10 lbs is a big change. You have fighters putting on 20+ post cut. It's ludicrous.

Man I remember when Woodley let kelvin keep his 30% even though kelvin missed by 9-10lbs.

sucks we didn't get to see WB/Pereira

Everytime I'm going to bad mouth or make fun of Woodley, I think of that and feel guilty for doing it anyway.

Jokes aside, I will always respect for Woodley doing that.
