Steinermania 287: HE'S FAT

This conversation about NJPW perfectly encapsulated wrestling fans as a whole. A lot of people just seems to want to "enjoy" whatever product they enjoy yet enraged at other people for expressing their opinion about it because somehow it is not the "right" way to enjoy it. Whether it is about strong style, Roman Reigns, Bret Hart, CM Punk or whatever is the berserk button of the day. You can't try to be laid back and then be serious all at the same time. Sure, you can jerk off in whatever echo chamber you are in pretending that you are superior to everyone else outside of your comfort zone, but you might as well go to the Special Olympic too. Unless it is a subjective fact that is etching in stone, debating like this will go nowhere.
My biggest issue with the WWE's direction is that it desperately wants to escape from being labeled wrestling. They want it to be "sports entertainment" more akin to a variety show, not anything related to pro wrestling. Problem is, they're just half assing it on both ends and it's suffering as a product because of it.

Yeah, I think people who don't get the appeal of Strong Style need to watch a joshi match. The whole point to it is to make it as believable as possible without killing people. This mania everyone complained about Shane's "boxing punches" because you could see they clearly weren't making contact, well that's why we love Strong Style. Often times, it LOOKS like a punch without being a full punch (or hitting somewhere less painful). It doesn't break immersion when they get into striking. If they were really wailing on each other, it would look like joshi, because they ARE really wailing on each other. Asuka is really drilling that chick in the gif, but they do it because they're just hardcore like that.

Funny story about the match you're talking about (Act Yasukawa vs Yoshiko), is that after Yoshiko hamburgered Act's face and broke her orbital bone, Act pleaded with the referees not to end the match as they were trying to get her to go. Her justification? "I'm a pro wrestler damnit!" Joshi chicks go hard.

Edit: Hah, whaddya know, they have a pic.

do your senpais like joshi?

He had tights made that used HHH's colors and HBK threw a hissy fit. Orton of all people told Shawn to shut the fuck up.

Orton seems pretty chill

Besides the shit in purses days ofc
And the yelling at Kofi for botching

I like it when matches are worked strong/stiff. It defintieyl adds to the believability of the match. I like a lot of Regal matches for this reason. I can't remember, but there was a group fo recent guys who worked pretty stiff when they were working together. Pretty sure Sheamus/Barrett were in there, but I can't remember exactly who. Of course, this makes any Lesnar match a must watch for me, but then again every Brock match is a must watch.

Damn, hearing Savage on the call for that first Steiner Screwdriver in the that compilation video... Wow, brings back some memories, always kind of forget that Randy did some commentary.

It really forces the wrestlers to work at a realistic pace, it gives the match weight and keeps it from being a flippy spot fest. It keeps the legitimacy in wrestling that's always been there, these fuckers are tough, they're real athletes and working stiff really brings out the best in them.

Watching some 99 ECW I'm surprised they didn't make RVD double champion (TV & World) he was that over and at times the TV title main evented PPVs eg Anarchy Rulz 99. There was a time the TV title was seen as superior to the World due to RVD's long TV title reign.

Jericho plays a good crotchety old man.

Reminds me of my dad really. Right down to the dreams of still being a rockstar (or Blues star in my dad's case)

I don't much about the spotfest, bc the guys still hit their finishers and kick out of them. I think they should still only get hit by a finisher once and call it that, or you get one kickout if its a big blow off match or for title.

Senpai hasn't noticed me yet... :(

Just gotta tap that class ring a little harder against them Lone Star bottles

brother.
