Statues of Ulysses S. Grant, Junípero Serra, and Francis Scott Key at Golden Gate Park in San Fran

Was it appropriate for protesters to tear down these statues?

What do you guys think, is this justified? It's hard look at this and say it's about justice anymore. It's about trying to gain power not equality. Why are these cities letting mobs deface public property? It doesn't set a good precedent.

Francis Scott Key was a slave owner, but eventually freed the ones he had. He publicly criticized slavery and gave free legal representation to some slaves seeking freedom, but he also represented owners of runaway slaves.

Grant married the daughter of a slave owner, and was given one as a gift from his Father in Law, but freed him after he got him. He was the commanding general for the Union in the Civil War and passed the Third Force Act, (AKA Ku Klux Act) when he was the president. He declared martial law and imposed heavy penalties against terrorist organizations and used military force to suppress the KKK.

I don't know much about Junipero Serra except for the fact that he was a missionary and was declared a saint by the Catholic church. He receives criticism for suppressing Native American culture.

mlk, black panther and oprah statues are all fair game now

They're gopnna tear down statues of everyone from history, because everyone from history was a racist piece of shit that should only be known as a racist piece of shit. Hell, George Washingtons entire Wikipedia entry should be "Racist white supremacist slave owner, first president of the Racist States of America."

No it's not justified. None of these are. While there may be good reasons to remove a statue, illegally damaging property whenever you feel like it is not okay and they should be prosecuted. These thugs think it's all fun and games until one of them gets their skull crushed from a falling statue.

Are any of these mobs being charged with destruction of public property?

Or are they all just walking away with no charges?

They are walking away with no charges. It's fucked up too. They even video themselves doing it and post it all over their social media feeds. The left wing powers that be are telling the police in these cities to stand down in these situations.

No, nobody should destroy anything they do not personally own.

Also, seems like it’s time for a statue megathread.

So they have the police/governments permission, essentially. Great precedent, fucking morons.

Im completely anti government((in its current form)) Im no fan of police officers ((in their current form )) Im not at all into racism but rather equality across the board...............

I think its completely shameful to see all this going on.........

1)im not sure which is worse.....that people are doing these things, that others are just letting it happen, or that the police force is actively standing down in the face of chaos and disorder

2)Ive always waited for and cheered for the day that people would smarten up and rise up to over throw this tyranny we are under, but to see this now ....when this movement has so clearly been taken over, controlled, guided and directed by the very people that should be overthrown.................is entirely disheartening

3)the movement itself is racist because its not at all encompassing of other races that have just as much to gripe about as the african americans, namely the native americans who lost far more

4)none of this statue removal, looting and burning of non corporate stores, killing and beating random civilians, taking over blocks of a city or creating all this ((partially fake)) and entirely misdirected outrage is going to make anything better for coloured people

5)anyone taking part in all of this is part of the problem...they are clueless and unwitting pawns being used for purposes that will not benefit them in the long run

No charges. I haven't even seen anyone for charged for pulling that statue down ontop of a protester, putting him into a coma.

Grant should honored if we're doing the statue thing. Dunno enough about the others.
