STARFIELD discussion

The guns feel like bb guns. New atlantis is boring as fuck. The npcs are even more lifeless than skyrim. The food items are like just pointless things. In all bethesda games i never bother with food cos its not necessary and i guess they really invested their time in food in starfield. Whooooo this tea will give me 2% exp gain for 15 mins like who gives a fuck.

The space combat is really blah and easy. I target this ship, get the lock feature, i think its gonna like ready a missile. Nope! It does some weird zoom in auto aim following thing.

The starting of the game is not exciting like a prison escape.

They really should have not done fallout 76 and starfield.

TES6 or 5 or let Obsidian make New Vegas.

Before the release i was playing fallout 4 and skyrim to help pass time and now im back to playing those 2.

Fallout 4 you can build your settlements with named npcs and populate the commonwealth. Running into your supply iine pack mules as you wander around. Build cool trading communities. My Sanctuary is not military defense at all. Its like a lil resort. Working on building a cool townhouse strip along the water called "London Town"

I don't want to clutter up the thread with FO4 conversation, but I've completed the first set of quests to get Sanctuary up and running. Question: What's the point of settlements? It seems like the more you build it up the more you have to keep it up. What benefit does it give me to spend time doing this? We can go to DMs, but I'd appreciate an initial response. Thank you sir!

I hated the settlements. Game was amazing. But yeah, you have to keep an eye on em. Give em a ton of perimeter guns and some guard bots.

If you really get into it, and keep your settlements operational, you can then create your own network of trade routes, and basically create your own little economy. I believe a good ending might be tied to keeping your settlements going as well. Other than that, it's just for kicks really.

I would advise trying to get into the crafting/base building as much as possible. It really brings all of the game's loose ends together, and makes every little excursion into the wastes mean something, since you're always looking for certain materials to build certain things. You can still have fun if you ignore them, but it really brings the game together if you keep a focus on even one settlement. That's pretty much all I do. I pick a nice place, do it up all fancy like, and let the other settlements rot.

But what do you gain from them?
Like Heretic said, outside building your own little economy, there wasn't much point to them in regards to story.

That was always my problem with FO4's vanilla settlement system, a meaningful purpose beyond making use of junk.

Still though, it's really fun if you like building things. With just the assets in the vanilla game, you can make remarkable structures. Throw in mods and unlimited materials and only your imagination can hold you back.

There are also special recruitable npc's you can assign to various shops. Saves you from having to go to other places to buy and sell things, as most NPC's you can recruit produce shitty things, or have few caps.

I have mentioned the Sim Settlements mod a few times, as that adds so much to it. There's an epic story around uniting other settlements and taking on the Gunners in a well produced campaign, if you choose that route. They even got main cast voice members to do more lines.

I haven't finished it yet, as the latest update came out last month, but it felt like it was building towards a proper ending.

Can't argue that. Much like Mass Effect 1

Not that I think they should make the planet exploration linear like the did in ME2 and 3, but they could have stood to condense a lot of the design into much fewer planets.
A good thing about all those planets being empty, and them all being their own instance, is it allows BGS and modders to add tons of content without bogging the entire game down. It would be easy to add another system too.

They need to get those mod tools asap. I can't wait to dive into modding myself. I played around a bit with Fallout 4's creation kit, but had too much going on to give it a proper go. With all the possibilities in SF, and being in a better position, I can see myself giving more of an effort to here. Anyone else try their hand at it?

I'm completing this crimson fleet quest/mission/whatever and if it doesn't finally get me hooked in I'm throwing in the towel. Just incredibly boring

I’m wrapping that one up now. I like it so far. Nothing crazy but it’s been the most fun thing I’ve done in the game so far.

I'm well into a NG+3. You can do an NG+ run super quick, skipping pretty much 99% of the story, depending on a choice you make, which I did for my second run through the game.

I planned on taking a break until their first big update, or DLC, but I haven't been able to get this damn game out of my head.

I'm going to take my time with this run, keep it going until DLC arrives, find every quest possible, and play like the smuggling outlaw Sarah hates... but craves.

I've been exploring, doing more quests that pop up from NPC's talking amongst themselves. They've eventually lead me to some pretty large ones I hadn't seen yet. Any of you do the Crucible questline? It's pretty cool!

I dabbled a bit in some surface mods, that don't require a console command to not affect achievements.

Here are a few;

Andreja rogue outfit, also changes her shape a bit, all for the better.

This was a cool new mission with an abandoned Deimos transport (floating in the BG), more of a puzzle quest with the added twist of gravity fluctuating off and on. I never experienced no grav combat in my first run. Some good loot too.

I love how Barrett is chilling cross legged with dead bodies everywhere, takes me back to Fallout Skeletons in cities.

The eyes of beauty mod, really brings NPC's to life.

Sarah's dark grey outfit, looks way better.

Cora caught me perving in the act. This is all Sam's fault, a starship is no place for children!

I was rolling with the Star Eagle again, but it's been glitching so I renamed it the Bald Eagle. This never happened in my first run, any of you see this? I'm building a new ship, and so far it hasn't done this, neither does the Mantis.

I did this one, it was pretty damn cool tbh

Unfortunately I didn't have a high enough security skill to pick some of the locks so I will have to come back to that now that I can do master locks

Regarding this mod, the nexus page has all these other options, should I install them or just the main file? I'm guessing the main file will replace all the eye colours (including the people on Mars who have red eyes) but those extra files will add some extra enhancements to other colours?

I'm pretty sure I just downloaded the second one. "Replacement of Vanilla textures pack 1, with a reflection on the iris."

I'm looking at my file. This is the name of the folder
"The Eyes of Beauty - Starfield - Replacer only-493-1-0-0-1693728255"

For my mods, I'm hearing all kinds of issues with Vortex, as it's not set up for Starfield properly yet. This is a big reason why I'm being extra selective with simpler mods, and just manually installing them. It's too early to be fucking around too much lol,

I'm sure if you back up your save file, it will be fine to be more ambitious than me.

Yeah that's the one I ended up installing.

To be honest the only one that installed with Vortex was the latest version of StarUI. I tried this mod and the Sarah makeover mod and the Andreja red suit mod that you see in that pic and it says "installed" but it wasn't so I did all of them manually which worked.

Nice, if you install anything else, or come across anything worthwhile, let me know.

Just imagine how insane this game is going to be once the creation kit is out and some of the Skyrim/FO vets have time with it.
