STARFIELD discussion

I don't really like what I'm hearing about the planets but it was a small part of what I was going to do. I'm more interested in exploring these massive ships and getting onto other ships. I'll also be sticking to the main story for this one mostly. Apparently the game doesn't start until new game + so I want to see what that's about. I have an issue of doing to much side content in Bethesda games and not finish. So I'm keeping my side questing to a minimum and probably sticking to the main beefy side quest.

A lot of this comes from Todd Howard’s history of over-promising. That and Bethesda kind of gets the expectation that they should move the genre forward with each release of a game. Not necessarily fair there but I think that is why people actively look for shortcomings.

CDPR has the same problem given the crazy expectations put on them from the success of Witcher. They felt the need to over promise to maintain the expectation for the new release, likely do to financial pressure, then the game ends up being less than expected.

I'm not planning on playing this for hundreds of hours and visiting a ton of planets anyway. Just not that into Sci-Fi.

If it has some cool world design, good game mechanics, and an interesting story that keeps me entertained for like 50 hours I'm happy.

If it does end up being some milestone in gaming history, all the better. I doubt it though.

From Forbes:
But there is one way that Starfield breaks from past Bethesda games. Its action-based combat is genuinely quite good.

9.5/10

Edit: skimming reviews seems to say that the story is undwhelming and that there's too much breadth and not enough depth.

86% isn't 'that good' despite the magnifying glass this game has been under? Are you crazy?
This was considered a lock for goty by many coming into the year. Anything below a 90 is a major disappointment. Spider-Man 2 going to eat this game alive

Quick DF video on Console performance, there is a longer video coming

Yea I think 86% is very good.

My exact same feelings about the game. Most disappointing thing I've heard so far is a Portuguese review saying that there is to many loading screens which I do hate in games. Apparently the guy would rather fast travel then get onto his ship because you can skip two extra loading screens that way.

I thought TOTK was considered guaranteed to get GOTY.

You realise spiderman 2018, a incredible game which you've mentioned the sequel to, got the same percentage as Starfield is sitting on.

BG3 or zelda

Ultimately the high 80s range is good for a new IP from a studio that has been justifiably viewed with skepticism since Fallout 76.

Spider-Man 2 will definitely hit over an 85. Take a bet?

BG3 came out of nowhere though and IMO it should win it this year.

IMO the Skepticism was overblown. 76 is the only bad game they've had. ESO had a rocky start and now it's very good and has some of the best PVP in an MMO if not the best.

I'll be buying it so I hope it gets over 85 lol.

That's not the point I was making.
People were calling this game of the generation. A game 10 years in the making. This is definitely a disappointment. It won’t even be in the top 10 by the end of the year. How’s that not a failure?
