STARFIELD discussion

Sounds pretty much to be what I thought it would be. A 7/10 game with some pretty annoying bugs that would likely cause the score to drop a bit, at least at launch.

Mind, I'm no Bethesda hater, they've developed some of my favorite games (notably, Fallout 3, Skyrim and Morrowind -- isn't the most recent Prey theirs as well? I like that one, too [EDIT: nevermind, they only published it]).

Nor do I have a horse in the dumb console wars between Xbox and PlayStation. And if I did, I'd be rooting for Microsoft, because at the very least they're far more supportive of the PC community.

I skipped to the last five minutes and he sounds like he really liked it.

I'm busy so I haven't had time to listen to it yet.

But I posted it to add additional context to the discussion.

I heard someone say in a reply to IGN's '7' score that Fallout 4, at launch was given a 9.5/10 by IGN.

Technically true, but its not like they were the same reviewers. And the numbered-score summary of a review is far too subjective.

Some consider a 5/10 to be 'average' while others may consider a 7/10 to be 'mediocre' (which I admit to, and are open to being incorrect), and, of course, games of similar scores are commonly considered to be of similar quality.

My point being is that 'scores' are a very overrated metric of quality in a review, and I fully admit to sometimes forgetting that myself.

Glad I'm waiting a bit. The quest line stuff mentioned @13mins is the thing I'm most worried about.

Bethesda is the only company to release a game that I couldn't complete no matter what I did because my main quest was bugged (this was fallout 4). I went back over an hour and the same problem just happened again. This guy is running into almost the exact same issue I had.

Not to be a tinfoil hat wearer, but it seems that a lot of the “mainstream” review sites like IGN, Gamespot, Polygon etc don’t like the game and are giving it 7s, while the smaller individual reviewers like your YouTubers like the game a lot. Not sure if that’s a coincidence or if there’s… something going??

Cheaper to pay off the little guy.

With IGN, their scores all over the place..

IGN Spain and Japan gave it 10, IGN US gave it 7.

That's what I found surprising as well.

I mean I guess that’s entirely plausible, but sort of the opposite of where I was going with my line of thought. I was more thinking back to the Gamergate fiasco of 2014 where I thought someone had allegedly uncovered that the major outlets were all seemingly coordinating releasing articles at the same time on the same subject matter? I don’t really remember all the ins and outs, but I thought there was an underlying idea that the major sites were in “cahoots” with one another. Extending that logic, I guess I’m speculating that maybe some of those outlets are now “out to get” Starfield/Bethesda/Microsoft for any number of plausible or implausible reasons such as:

-platform exclusivity
-the Microsoft purchase of Activision/Blizzard
-wanting BG3/Larian to maintain their position as “top dog” among rpgs this year
-NOT receiving some big payoff or bribe to ensure a good review when one was expected
-some other random reason I can’t think of
-some totally outlandish reason
-etc

I think what’s most impressive is most reviews are saying it also runs well on PC. Bethesda games usually have a rough launch but looks like the delays have been worth it.

Yea I heard the same. A 2080ti I think it was, was getting like 45-60 FPS. So far the only thing that I think will annoy me is the loading screens. Hopefully they are quick at the very least.

A company named Microsoft supportive of the PC community? No way…. But on a serious note it’s good consoles exist

From what I've read, and I'm limiting review content, it runs well on series S. Sounds like that extra time payed off

@GearSolidMetal I watched a bit of GG Man Lives video, always a good source. He's pretty high on it. There are some bugs, but I think we all expected that.

Anyone know if he official community patch out is yet lol. It's def a Bethesda must.

I’m just glad they took the time to polish the game. I was definitely expecting a more negative review from digital foundry but it was very positive. Glad console players get a solid experience, im wondering myself what sorta FPS I can get outta my PC but at the very least, I should get 60 FPS 4K.
