Seeing how things unfolded with Luke (astral projection fighting Kylo and then dying at the end), they should have just revealed that Luke already died many years ago when Kylo crushed him with the rocks and Rey has been interacting all along with a tangible Force ghost.

Agreed with this, said the exact same thing afterwards.

The first few minutes here describes killing tropes way better than I can.

Add to that how Luke just threw away the legendary lightsaber. It's just a weapon to him.

I watched some and disagree with them on a lot of their interpretations and believe that Johnson used arrogance and hubris to make Star Wars into something META so he can critique an entire genre of films and deconstruct what the tropes of a hero are.

Who does he think he is Kubrick? He most certainly is not. Hell, Lucas did it Better in 1977

Everyone knows the hero is flawed, rising above those flaws is what makes a hero a hero. It can be seen from movies to comic books to literature. No new ground broken here.
If this movie wanted to delve in the importance of a balance between dark and light they did it poorly. I would've loved much more detail given to that and the idea that the dark side is more than just "evil," and how sometimes you need to reach into it to find answers. So a living being can be balanced. But we didn't get that, or we barely got that. And I use "barely" in the loosest way possible

I also can't stand to listen to anyone else say Leia was empowered in this movie. Heck, have these people ever seen the original new hope. She's more than a damsel in distress, She's a BOSS the entire movie. A natural leader, with a take no shit attitude and defiance in the face of death. She was her own woman in 1977. That's why the character was awesome. This is nothing new and didn't break new ground, that was always the character. A BOSS

So yeah I disagree with a lot of what they said.

I'm sure black people don't want to be associated with the First Order anyway. They're a bunch of incompetent idiots. My God, this movie was bad on so many levels. There some cool scenes, but that's it.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but they really shouldn't have completely shut Lucas out. Sure, Lucas can no longer make a good movie to save his life, but at least he has vision. He can tell a story. Don't let him write it, direct it or even credit him with anything, but at least let him give input about the overall arch.

For the first time in my entire 39 year life, I don't give a fuck what happens next. It's not even that I'm mad. I just don't care. Fuck you, Rian Johnson.

I disagree. Don't get me wrong, not thrilled about Last Jedi (don't hate it like the fanboys but pretty underwhelming). However, people forget how much of a collaborative effort the original trilogy was, specially Empire Strikes Back. A lot of the romance between Leia and Han was Lucas' wife at the time, Kershner's directing or Harrison Ford not being afraid to improvise and go against some of Lucas' ideas. Lucas' gas tank has been empty for a while. If the prequels didn't convince you, go watch Strange Magic. And that was a property with no fan expectations or studio to hold him back, which it's two things he is always complaining about. He would have just made Last Jedi bad in a different way or worse. If you didn't like the casino parts, guess what? He would have put more of that in it. That was something right out of the prequels.

The prequels actually had a coherent story with some really poor dialogue. Nevertheless, I said Lucas shouldn't have directed, but should have had input. The Last Jedi is an absolute mess. It was terrible. Maybe it wasn't prequel bad, but man, it's sure as fuck close. It's the lowest rated Star Wars film ever!

I also literally said, Lucas can't make a good movie to save his fucking life.

I feel like people are getting a bit ahead of themselves. This movie was somewhat lackluster. It wasn't garbage or the worst thing ever. It sure as hell was still much better than the first two prequels and imo also the 3rd. I feel like it's about on par with Jedi.

Yeah, my take exactly. Pretty good movie but very underwhelming (and messy at times) for what was expected of it. I will still watch the next one in theaters but I doubt I will rush to them like I did for this one. After TFA, I was interested where these characters and story would go but don't feel really invested in them after Last Jedi.

We are having a prequel rewatch thread

Gonna have to pass, I don't want to watch the prequels again, hah.

I'd like to watch the original trilogy without that Special Edition crap. I owned it when I was a kid, unfortunately it got lost after I moved out many moons ago. Had I known I wouldn't have been able to buy it (unaltered) I would have never let it go.

I thought they had great story ideas, but the way they were executed and put together was atrocious. RedLetterMedia hit the nail on the head with those Mr. Plinkett reviews.

The sad part is some of the Star Wars video games had better stories and characters than any of the movies outside of the originals. I might actually like the KOTOR I & II stories and characters more than even the original trilogy.

Ok, have input just to be ignored? Because you know that's what it would have happened, and this is not only a statement on Disney but on how these situations usually go with many large studios. I disagree with the prequels having a coherent story (convoluted would be the more apt word for them). Pretty disappointed about Last Jedi but gun pointed to my head, I would rather watch that again than any of the prequels.

RLM is going to rip this one to shreds. I almost don't want to watch it.

Can a mod change my vote from a 6 to a 4?

I voted 6 based on my own personal scale, but looking at @Dragonlordxxxxx ’s scale a 6 is defined as “decent” while a 4 is “poor” and I’d consider this movie poor.

On my own personal scale I consider points out of 10 to be equivalent to grades in school, so 6/10 would be 60% which is barely passable, while anything below 50% is considered an actual failure.

I'm anxiously awaiting their review. I wonder if they're going to do a Mr. Plinkett review after the Half in the Bag one.

No. You're accepting mediocrity. They ruined 40 years of lore and anticipation with this movie.

Watch it again, and let me know if you saw it differently. It wasn't great, and yes, it pisses in the lore enough that I myself was, and am annoyed.. But it's not as bad second viewing. Serious. Burning wisdom because Rey "knows everything" is stupid. Inconsistent powers and ways tonobtain those powers are a problem in movies across the board these days.. But it simply is not as bad second viewing.

Its humorous the low bar people are setting for this movie. Cute critters? Who gives a **ck about some throwaway happy meal promotional toys. The force connection between those two WOULD have been more impactful had things went down differently and not ruined by someone making it a contrived plot device.

I dont see what a second viewing would get me other than more angry from the other bullshit I didnt notice. I didnt go in expecting ESB, but there were so many nonsensical aspects and wasted opportunities... the idea that the resistbels (not a typo) only have 1 Mon Calamari cruiser and junk like nebulon b frigates and corellian corvettes, while the first order has fuc**ing star dreadnaughts, tons of resurgent class star destroyers, and a Mega-class star destroyer is beyond laughable.

The femininity of the resistance is a distraction. It's forced. It negatively impacts a lot of things right now. From office politics, to science, to high art.. Politics being in places it shouldn't is a problem; I agree.

Lucas was big on interesting little side characters, like some in the casino and the little birds.. Those things are, like it or not, part of the series.

Episode 2 was on TV when I got home from work and I watched like half of it. I really despise Anakin in that movie. The chemistry between him and Portman really sucks. I do like the Obi Wan scenes with the cloners though.

...and Dooku’s lightsaber. That thing is sweet.

I like a lot of things in that movie.

I wanted more Snoke story. Like who the hell is he? Where did he come from?
