The only character that stood outas Rey. Fin felt like a forced PC character that overreacted to everything. The lightsaber scenes were disappointing compared to Episodes 1-3. Whoever choreographed Episodes 1-3 needs to get rehired for sure. Literally wasted The Raid cast in some CGI mess. Think about it, THE RAID Cast with LIGHTSABERS? or just letting them choreograph ONE scene..
Missed fucking opportunity right there..
Just saying..
7/10

I don't understand the hate for Finn. A guy taken from his family, turned into a sanitation worker as a kid and then finally trained to be a storm trooper. It was his first battle and he was disgusted with what the order does/did. So he helped/ needed a ride to get away from the order. It wasnt 100% by chance that he found Rey and BB. Him and the pilot were specifically going back to find the droid... Wtf does him being black have to do with anything. If the character was white people wouldn't say a thing. I just don't get the hate.

The lightsaber battles are coming...

They made it pretty clear that even Ren was a novice. Rey's ability was more of letting the force flowing and trusting in it and herself. It would have been stupid if both of them were absolute experts. While it may have looked cooler it wouldn't have made sense. The good battles will come.

This movie should get a prequel.

"It's the same as the first one" would be a legit complaint if the first one wasn't super fucking good.

I have to throw out some praise to Chewbacca and no one seems to be mentioning him. He was funny, fun to watch and emotional. It's the most interesting Chewie we've seen since New Hope.

Anakin destroys the droid control ship in phantom menace

Luke destroys Death Star in new hope

Poe destroys star killer base

Movies follow a pattern. So to say it copies new hope shows stupidity.

These movies have a formula for a reason

How many more should I post before people start understanding things go a certain way in the movies.

I did enjoy the movie, just a few nitpicks like the same death star thing plot again. I like the new characters. The highlight for me was seeing the old cast, It felt like seeing old friends again.

Whoever manages the security protocol for the First Order needs to be fired or force choke. Han and his crew easily bypass and entered that place on mutiply occasion

Considering Rey is a scavenger, it's appropriate that her homeworld would be a deserted planet.

A former Stormtrooper that turns against his own faction and crash lands on Rey's planet after stealing a TIE fighter. Yup, that definitely happened in A New Hope.

That wasn't when she realized her powers. So that's a fail.

So now a character with internal conflict is strictly ANH-like story telling? You're reaching.

No. Rey was captured and Finn used the attack as a way to be able to save her. They land themselves on the base itself to lay down demolitions, which lead to Poe, who was originally a Resistance pilot, to destroying it. It doesn't look similar to the Death Star, which was even shown in the film.

A little different? I'm not sure you've watched the film, in all honesty.

What are you talking about the same power balance? Do you know anything about Star Wars? Seriously, more reaching. Luke and team toppled the Empire, after his pupil turned to the Dark Side, Luke into exile while the First Order created itself out of the ashes on the Empire and used it as inspiration. We've known about the inclusion of Leia, Han, Luke, and other characters from the original trilogy and that there would be several tie-ins. Why would it be explained in the 1st film? There was hardly any explanation to the Empire's dominance in ANH, so why the complaints?

Doesn't look the same as it's built inside a planet and is 10x the same of the Death Star. Not to mention it doesn't take out single planets with a beam, it uses the energy of it's star to destroy entire star systems, which was mentioned in the film. Once again, since you're not the brightest... The First Order idolizes the Empire and Vader. They improved their ideas.

There is plenty of original material in this film but you basically use 20% of the plot to make it seem as if it's a reboot.

Lol at me reaching. "It's not like the Death Star because it's even bigger and shoots more planets at once" and then in the same breath admits the first order based it on what the empire did.

Yea they idolize the empire so much. That's way obvious without the new death star so when they re-do the same battle a third time, only slightly different, its pointless and boooooriiing. Come up with a new threat, anything for fucks sake. The supreme leader didn't even give a shit when it blew up, and neither did the audience.

Not all deserted planets need to look extactly like Luke's In a new hope. It was cool in New Hope, would have liked something at least slightly different in a new movie. They beat us over the head with the similarities in his and Rae's call to action in the first act TOO HARD with the planet, droid, and Han conveniently dropping in.

What I'm talking about with the power balance is it would have been nice to have some insight into how come the republic after winning all those huge battles in 4-6 and saving the Galaxy twice is still a rag tag totally out gunned outfit with a handful of old x wings just decades later while the first order, which is a reassembled slice of the empire is already totally dominating them and has somehow already built a 20x bigger death start while still pulling itself back together. Doesn't make lots of sense that everyone let everything just go right back to being the same battle against the same kind of facist rule as it was at the beginning of New Hope. Like others said it was like the battles before had no effect on the outcome of the Galaxy.

The parts that were totally new were very fun, but they were not frequent as I would have liked

Another thing, instead of Kylo getting mad everytime his minions fail to retrieve the robot, he should gone to that desert plant himself

You can post this a million times but it's not going to change the fact that following a pattern too closely too many times makes for a boring plot point later in the series. Pretty obvious.

This movie harkened to the prior ones enough without it, creating a new threat would have made the First Order much more interesting then being just empire fanboys

Yea that explanation about why they could bypass the shields was weak lol

7/10 Good movie but nothing unique or new. Same shit, different generation.

7/10 for me. Maybe hyped myself up too much before watching it, but there are some issues with the plot like others here have stated. I plan on taking my nephew and niece to see it next week, so maybe a second viewing will improve my score.

Agreed. I was excited to see Mad Dog, then was instantly disappointed when all he did was run down a hallway.

Great movie, will be watching again.

You guys are just idiots, Finn was a cool character. Why do so many people think he is a PC character? Yes, he's black, so??????

I liked the prequels but they were not as good as this movie. Are you guys just trying to sound cool by liking the prequels better?

And is it just me or does DragonLord nitpick everything now? I remember that he used to enjoy movies when he first started rating stuff. Although, he did enjoy Terminator: Genysis more than The Force Awakens. Yet that film borrows more in my opinion. Kind of hypocritical.

Glad to see the general audience is enjoying this film. At least not everyone is a nerdy hipster.

How was that a missed opportunity? There was Han Solo, Chewie, Rey and Finn. 4 guys against something like 15 (if you include both side) armed men. Writing the monster in made perfect sense because it was the only plausible situation that could have allowed them to escape unharmed. You really wanted to see a Raid scene? 4 unarmed against 15 or so armed?? That would have been hilariously stupid. I‘m so glad the people complaining about this film are not involved in directing.

Lol, the thread is full of whining. Not shocking at all.
