He took down Vader because Vader was torn between killing Luke and making Luke join him and Luke was made more powerful by giving in to the dark side for a moment. Focused Vader would have smote him.

You can rationalize it however you'd like, but Vader lost. In the EU Luke is basically omnipotent.

EU isn't canon anymore as far as I know.

Yeah obviously not, but up until now Luke was considered the Johnny Badass of the post Endor era.

In the EU, similar events happened. Jacen Solo (Kylo in the movies) becomes Darth Caedus, Luke basically runs away because he refuses to kill his nephew, even after Jacen kills Luke's wife Jade Solo (Han in the movies). Jaina Solo (Rey in the movies) whom Luke trained was forced to take him out...which is kind of where I see this storyline going.

Not sure where Snoke (who I believe is Darth Plagues) fits in to all of this yet.

Sooooooooo everything done since Jedi is null and void, and everything from Force Awakens on is canon?

Bump for those that haven't read it yet:

Daniel Craig's STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Cameo Revealed

During an interview last summer, EW asked Daniel Craig about a certain rumor that had been ricocheting across the web (thanks to Simon Pegg’s loose lips) since May: that Craig delivers a cameo as a stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Not only did the star vehemently deny it at that time, he responded to EW's query with barely suppressed rage. “Why would I ever bother doing something like that?” Craig sputtered. “F—ing hell! Pffft. Play an extra in another movie.”

Starting last year, the Spectre production took place across various soundstages in the venerable studio facility, just yards away from where The Force Awakens was being concurrently filmed. So if Craig had wanted to make a cameo, it would have likely been as simple as cozying up to Star Wars director JJ Abrams, slipping out of his Tom Ford suit and donning the white plastic helmet.

According to multiple sources close to The Force Awakens who asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to speak publicly, that is precisely what happened.

Craig does make a cameo in Star Wars VII as a stormtrooper, turning up in one of the movie’s most memorably nostalgic scenes. “He did it for s—ts and grins,” says one of the people with knowledge of the actor’s performance.

For anyone who has not seen The Force Awakens, the below description of Craig’s cameo contains Spoilers. So stop reading now if you don’t want to know what happens.

At one point in the movie, Daisy Ridley’s character Rey has been captured, and makes her maiden attempt at a Jedi mind trick.

“You will remove these restraints and leave this cell with the door open,” Rey tells the stormtrooper played by Craig.

It is, of course, an implicit shout-out to Obi-Wan Kenobi’s “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for” scene in Star Wars IV: A New Hope. And the sequence prompted shouts of joyful recognition in the pre-release screening I attended earlier this week.

“I’ll tighten those restraints, scavenger scum,” Craig’s character responds, although few in the audience can be expected to register that it’s him. We only hear the actor’s clipped British diction and never see his face.

I stand by my post.

Just saw it, have to agree with the TS. The Finn character really annoyed. I didn't get the backlash over a black character and I still don't. But unless something changes in the next film, he's a useless character who magically gains all of the skills he needs....right when he needs them.

And the plot ripoff from Star Wars is just too blatant to ignore. Right down to the trench.

pick one thing apart from the originals that is as egregious as this new movie?

How could the Death Star have such an easily exploitable design flaw... twice?
Why is Luke's last name still Skywalker if he's supposed to be in hiding?
How could Vader not sense that Leia is his daughter after interacting with her, but he could easily detect Luke's presence in Return of the Jedi?
Why does Leia show no kind of emotion when her entire home planet is destroyed, shitty acting?
Why do all the storm troopers have such horrible aim?

Am I doing it right?

When I read the leaked plot from that stupid star wars nerd site,

I thought to myself, wow story is utter shit, then realized if this plot is for reals, this movie is going to be total shit. And I was not wrong at all, the plot sucked, a lot of melodramatic moments, rofl....light saber duels? Movie should have been billed under star wars battlefront because it sucked just like the video game.

I liked it but Kylo Renn is a poor character. I enjoyed Finn, Poe, and Rae quite a bit.

lol @ all the hipsters that have to shit on every single movie that gets good ratings because they want to be different.

Just saw it. Good movie, but not mindblowing. Story is super simple and kinda disappointing. It moves along in a very straightforward style as is the custom with JJ Abrams movies. It's an Abrams film through and through, so you can pretty much expect how it plays out if you've seen his previous movies. I'd give it a 8/10.

Feel free to ask me questions about the movie.
The only movies that was some what decent from him were Armageddon (didnt direct), Star Trek both films and Cloverfield. Rest were terrible, Super 8, mission impossible 3, star wars, dammit.
