THE PROBLEM IS KYLO HAS BEEN A SITH FOR AGES, SHE PICKS UP THE LIGHTSABER LIKE 10 MINUTES EARLIER, SHUTS HER EYES, CHANNELS HER INNER LUKE AND THEN PROCEEDS TO WHIP HIS ASS. I REALIZE IT IS FICTION TO BEGIN WITH BUT TALK ABOUT BEING COMPLETELY STUPID

THAT WAS MY ONLY GRIPE. OTHER THAN THAT I LIKED IT.
Eh It makes sense though considering who their fathers are

Not really, Like someone said. It would be like some guy in the crowd at a UFC event hoping over the barriers and whipping on Robbie Lawler because he had trained x-box ufc for a few months.

Watching it on Sunday, but with lowered expectations. I read James Berardirelli's review; I almost always agree with his reviews, and he calls it a mixed bag.

I have to say, making a woman the main character of the new trilogy really turns me off to the whole thing. It's like making a new Sex and the City movie with a male lead; women are allowed to have their movies, why aren't we men allowed to have ours?
He is the best reviewer out there imo. I have gone to his profile several times over the years to go down his list of 'fresh' ratings to see what movies to check out. Between tivo, downloading tv shows, and being at work a lot i simply never see the commercials to know what new releases are out and don't stay on top of checking the site weekly.

I actually sent him an email some years ago thanking him for his reviews. Once in a great while movies he thinks are good/very good i think are average/better-than-average. But he doesn't give good ratings just because a movie is popular or bad ratings to be contrarian. That guy is rock solid.

That was my only huge complaint, though it was missing some other minor complaints.

Like I told my girl; no amount of force could help me dunk all over LBJ in my first one-on-one game ever.

i enjoyed it.

i know people were concerned that this would be too 'trek-like' by abrahams but it was really more star wars than the 3 prequels were.

formulaic for sure, played with our nostalgic feels, yes, but this truly felt like it belonged in the original star wars movies universe - the tech was similar to that we saw in episodes 4-6, whereas the tech in the prequels seemed like it was far more advanced (same issue i had with prometheus).

all in all a solid movie - rey and fin were well cast, i didn't find ben too whiny, just a torn kid (they can't be more than 18-20 here, right?) - looking forward to see him complete his training in the next episode

I don'tthink yyou guys are grasping at how strong Rey is hinted at being. The last person like her was Anakin himself. My guess you'll see the same battle between the dark and light in herthat you saw in him oin the next two movies

This is just a step above Terminator Genisys, maybe...and that's a very objective opinion. If I actually cared about this new series I can definitely see a 1/10.

Makes no sense; if that is the case what is the point of having Kylo? He's not going to get much better or stronger. If she can pick up a light saber for 5 minutes and whip his ass - No Contest in the Future. Ditto Finn being able to hold his own for a few mintues against Kylo.

It was cool being in a theater where people actually clapped and cheered at parts. Everyone loved this. It wasn't perfect, but it was really good, really fun.

It makes total sense. The sith only care about power. Maybe Kylo was the strongest that the supreme leader dude could get at the time. Rey even said as much when she discovered that he was afraid he wasn't as strong as Vader was.

I don't think kylo was serious against Finn, he was just messing with the guy. Once Rey tapped into her power she showed how powerful she really is, especially against a wounded Kylo.

saw it last night and it had some good moments, however ts is right about quite a lot. They basically just copied ideas from the other stars wars (a bigger death star, and they needed to destroy it, a character in a desert discoverers the force, etc). Also they made it really appeal to kids, with the extremely young characters and completely ridiculous coincidences and luck, they should've made it way darker and more r rated. And lasted they built up Kylo Ren as some badass, when by the end you realize hes a wanna be Vader and just complains and cries and gets his ass kicked

gets his azz kicked by a girl with zero training. She had never even swung a lightsaber before that day lol.

What entertained me also was watching this guy in front of me get excited about certain parts of the movie. It's great seeing fans react positively to what's happening on the screen. He would shout exclamations of joy and clap his hands upon seeing the old characters and the Falcon when they first appeared or if something cool happens.

What was odd was he also did those things when Han and Chewie first showed up, like he was surprised they were even there. I was thinking at that time, "Has this guy been living in a cave for the past year?"

And I went into this movie with the expectations that I wanted to like it.

I think that was on purpose. The jedi is sort of a myth at this point of time. In the rotj theyre still sort of a mythic thing. I feel like the next films will be more jedi and force involved, hence the ending.

Oh no, i understand that, but wasnt the force and jedi a thing of the past in a new hope? In a new hope, we got to discover what the force was at the same time as Luke. In this, our characters just acted it out in a sort of 'fake it til u make it' mindset.

This episode was a setup episode and it feels unfinished. Like another said, i needed another 20 min or so.

Just watched the Conan special. Basically the woman at Disney had an agenda and an idea of a strong female lead and characters. I have no problem with this as I write myself and have a female lead and female characters.
My problem is that they wrote the male leads as total betas to outweigh it even more obviously. Finn and Kylo are complete bitches. Even Chewie is weak.

I've seen many interpretations of what a strong female character should be. Imo, mostly the word "strong" is misenterpreted as being actually physically strong, or "strong" willed and independent. I've seen female writers claim their characters strong females when in fact are more stereotypical than what they complain against.

I thought Rey was a good character but she had no arc or curve to her development. She starts off as a bad ass and gets stronger almost instantly. Rey will be going on to punch death stars into oblivion. Whilst Finn is going on to his spin off film, 12 years a stormtrooper.

I am doing a star wars marathon today. all 6 movies and then heading to the theatre

Nice, I'm doing the same. Just need to watch episode 3... I was surprised how much I enjoyed episode 1 after all these years. Fuck the haters.

That's the problem. If she can whip a long time trained sith within 10 minutes of picking up a light saber and not much longer after having discovered she has 'power'. Give her one month prep time with Luck (seriously) and she can pretty much restore order in the universe.

I'll say it Kylo is pretty much a beta bitch; in regards to his sith predecessors'.
