Star Wars Squadrons

well, White people arent even a close majority on THIS planet, why would you think in a setting that encompasses thousands of worlds full of humans that a majority of them would be pale? people that fall into the 'white' category are what? 25% of the Earths population? and thats assuming we are being generous and folding Mediterranean and Semitic people into that.

There's like 8 fucking polynesian pilots in this game rofl get out of here with that bs

I dont care that much about it, but it is worthy of an eye roll just like the million women injected into The Last Jedi. you can even choose male pilots with female voices because... reasons.

Humans are, without question, the dominant species in the SW universe. They made up the bulk of the Rebellion and NR armed forces.

im aware of that. What im saying that its not unacceptable for a star wars game to feature shitloads of human characters that ARENT western European archetypes because if we go by Earth alone, that particular combination of physical traits would only amount to roughly a third of the people you would see. The vast majority of space faring humans would probably look closer to a Brazilian national than a Danish one.

But Star Wars has always been trash sci-fi so arguing about it is just huffing and puffing. Some earlier poster bitched about Women being in the series like what? Women are over 50% of the fucking human population. There should be Women all over the damn place. In the original trilogy there we like 2. Star Wars is ultimately Naval Space Warfare centric with a bunch of political backdropping in a hyper futuristic setting. is it so unreal that 'gasp' an intergalactic empire that utilizes BILLIONS of citizens in city sized orbital craft would include women in a fairly robust if not mundane kind of way?

If you go into the expanded universe there is plenty of female representation, same with non-white. In the old (and MUCH better) EU the Empire was led by women on two separate occasions, and the NR was led by women till the Empire/NR peace treaty. In the new one, the First Order was founded in part by the highest ranking Imperial left, a black female Grand Admiral.

But yes, it's a stupid thing to argue about because in the end it's a space opera about wizards with plasma swords and cool spaceships with laser cannons. That's all that matters in the end.

Man, user reviews are the most useless thing I’ve ever seen. Here’s an example of a typical user review on Metacritic for this game:

“Disney inclusiveness is awfull and brokes and the affection and self representation you could have for the characters. Good gameplay system.

0/10”

Good gameplay but they’re upset about the non-binary character so 0/10?

This is why I love stores that let you try the game for like 2 hours and get a refund. Feels like you can't trust shit anymore.

Because that was the precedent that Lucas and the original Star Wars films set for the universe.

They used a bunch of pasty English dudes because that’s where they filmed lol.

It was opened up a lot more in the prequels.

Right because they *had* to use white male actors while filming in England. Smh

To skewer your theory even more, in the EU books, films, comics and video games...There was still no wokeness. Most of the roles in the Star Wars universe were western European/American. Almost as if Star Wars was created by a western, American filmmaker...

Yeah, pretty much. Hence them making a change in the prequels to add much more diversity. That was over 20 years ago.

Including non-white people in a universe is not “wokeness.” There’s nothing that doesn’t make sense about diversity showing up in a fictional galaxy. The outrage to it is just racist white guys upset at not being the center of attention.

You'll be alright, I promise.

Riiiiiiiiiiiightttt....The prequels, so diverse.

I hate to break your "outrage is just racism" fantasy, but canonically pre-Disney, Star Wars just didn't have that many people of color. And that isn't necessarily something that is "bad".

No one is saying that the mere inclusion of non-whites is wokeness. But when the majority of your characters are people of color, gay/lesbian/non-binary or some combination of under-represented classes of people...It's pretty clear what your intent is. You are putting identity politics at the forefront of character development. Disney won't let Star Wars have it's canonical levels of representation. Kyle Katarn captured the death star plans? No way! Now it was a multi-ethnic band of rebels led by a strong woman!

Yeah, the main cast stayed pretty pasty, even in 7-9. There was a lot more representation starting with the prequels. You can deny it all you want, it started there.
Mara Jade was a cool character. But too white! Bye-bye Mara Jade.

Did you enjoy Shadows of the Empire? Well forget about it being canon. Dash Rendar is a straight white male. Yuck!

Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II was a PC gaming classic. But just look at this cast of dark jedi. TOO WHITE!

We already mentioned Kyle Katarn. Doesn't exist anymore. Another straight white male no longer fit for Disney Star Wars

You’re very upset about non-whites being in a fictional sci-fi universe. Maybe get some perspective and relax a bit.

Wrong.

Here's the thing. Star Wars was never deliberately mostly a white franchise. It just turned out that way. But that's what it was.

Disney is deliberately inserting diversity into the Star Wars universe at a frantic pace, prioritizing inclusion of gay/lesbian/people of color above the things that matter most: Story. Characters. That intangible Star Wars "feel".

The funny thing is, if Disney had been making some seriously outstanding Star Wars films, then nobody would care about the demographics of its characters. Look at The Mandalorian. Race/ethnicity is never front and center of anything in that series, and yet they ALSO succeed in having a diverse cast of characters.

The main complaint from us that are upset about Disney's handling of Star Wars comes from the clear attention and focused nature to portray minorities as leading, kick-ass roles instead of just making good quality content.
Lol no it’s not wrong. Inclusion has been slowly creeping into Star Wars for decades.

I’m not upset that a lot of protagonists in the universe are white. I’m not pounding the desk for more minorities. I’m just not finding a single fuck to give when it comes to generic pilots in a flight combat game being available in more than one color.

If stuff like that bothers someone then good luck coping with anything meaningful in your life.

Other than Samuel L Jackson, I can't really think of many "diverse" actors in the prequels. In the OG trilogy, you still had Lando. I think you mean the sequels, the latest ones.

No one is complaining about having the option to customize your pilot's race.

Enjoy following orders from your new commander:

Thanks? I’d rather look at that than Tarkin’s crusty ass lol.

And yes, that’s exactly what the discussion was about. All the minorities in the character customization.

Sam Jackson was on the Jedi council, Anakin’s best friend was Indian, the clones/Jango Fett are Maori, Jimmy Smits is Hispanic, citizens on Naboo are pretty diverse, younglings had a mixture of races.

Definitely a stark departure from the original movies.

Boi, that A-wing is the saddest goddamn ship in the galaxy. A-Wing? More like A-crutch-for-noobs-to-lean-on-Wing

Also, Return of the Jedi had a multi racial Falcon crew.

Two white guys, a black man and the series' first latino.

I hate the way all the wokeness has become a replacement for well-written characters, but the idea that the Star Wars universe is canonically white has had me rolling. I will say the number of character customization options is extremely limited, and most of them never even matter because no one can see you. I will also say that most of the people who buy this game are probably white males, but all of this could be solved with a more robust character creator.
