It's being helmed by EA which gives me strong doubts as to how it's gonna turn out. Looks to be a combo of the sim style of X-Wing & Tie-Fighter and the arcade style of Rouge Squadron. You can adjust power to shields, weapons, and engines as you could in the former, plus you can customize your fighter with different parts as you progress. No shenanigans with lute boxes and P2P as with Battlefront II (so far...). It'll have 5 v 5 multiplayer. I didn't see any B-Wings, I'm guessing they're saving those for a DLC. It's gonna be 40 bones.

I want, want to be excited but I'm not holding my breath. I'd like a mission based simulator. I've already got a flight stick so I'm ready.

Update, new trailer:

I read a theory that this game was supposed to be an expansion for Battlefront 2 until EA decided to pull the plug on that game. Then they took the assets and made this game, which is why it's being sold for $40 with no microtransactions.

I mean, let's be real, if this game was half-decent, there's no way EA would sell it (a STAR WARS title) for $40 with no MT's.

It does strike me as strange that the price is so low. Wouldn't surprise me, I don't trust EA at all.

I wasn't impressed by the CGI trailer.

I'll wait for the reviews, see if its worth $40 for whatever campaign is offered, and probably wait a few weeks later to be absolutely sure EA doesn't sneak the microtransactions into an update.

I will say, their recent release of Fallen Order was a big step in the right direction to repairing trust within the Star Wars fanbase. Its going to be a few more years with a few more releases before any kind of solid trust will be established.

Much like @Thrawn33 I was a big fan of X-Wing vs Tie Fighter as well as the Wing Commander Series. Last decent Star Wars Space sim I can remember playing was the Jump to Lightspeed expansion for Star Wars Galaxies. The OG Battlefront had ok Space Battles too.

I agree with @bdreason that this looks like something that should have and may have been a part of BF2 but is now being sold separately. We're supposed to partake in "epic" space battles but the the most we get is a paltry 5 on 5.

And I'm on the opposite side of the fence as @GearSolidMetal. I bought Fallen Order at discount because of the word of mouth even against my better judgment (1st EA game I've purchased in ages). Holy hell was that a dull buggy mess of a game. Graphics suck, consistant freezing/lag on Kashyyyk, I was falling through the solid ground on Zeffo repeatedly dying over and over, just a bland game overall and completely unfinished. Reminded me of Mass Effect: Andromeda in that regard. Loved Titanfall and Titanfall 2 so was willing to give Respawn the benefit of the doubt. Never again with an EA game. They are a trash company.

Even with my irrational love of Star Wars and Space Sims I'm going to likely pass due to the combination of EA, 5 on 5 max, and the thought that this feels like a piece of a game trying to be passed as a full game.

im not retarded enough like everyone else to get EA game right now.

Looks to have a lot of potential. Fallen Order was great but still weary of them with this property.

I never partook in Fallen Order. It looked solid, but that isn't good enough for me. Story didn't look interesting enough to mess with either.

The 5 v 5 doesn't bug me (although 20 v 20 or something would be nice), what I want is a modern X-Wing/Tie Fighter simulator. Rogue Squadron was incredibly bland to me, I like missions, briefings, getting medals, modifying craft, adjusting functions in the ship while flying - I want a space sim based around a strong single player.

I didn't buy any of the "gameplay", but I'll probably pre-order at some point. I've been frothing for this sort of game for years and the price point is just right. Part of me is hoping EA is hoping this will he an apology to SW fans so they can get some profitable goodwill now that the movies sucked ass.

As a huge TIE Fighter fan.... I'm hyped and going to give it a go. This is the first SW game I've paid full price for since....

....

Yeah

Edit:
Xwing vs Tie Fighter...I'm old...piss off

Slot me in the Old Gamer club, last time I played full price was SW Rebellion, for Windows 98.

Do you guys want to talk about how almost every pilot is now either a female and/or person of color? I had no idea how much things changed after the Battle of Endor!

Did you play on PS4? It's probably one of the most stable games I've played on PC - technically and mechanically. But I heard the PS4 version was really phoned in and a real mess.

If it makes you feel any better, think of it this way: the Battle of Endor caused massive losses for both sides, and both sides had their best officers & fighters at that battle (especially the Empire). It stands to reason that the ranks would change afterward. This is like Marshall University after the plane crash. It's the JV team.

Nah, I played on Xbox 1. Maybe one of the mistakes I made was playing the masterpiece God of War 4 right before I started this game. It felt like a downgrade from Force Unleashed IMO. At least on Xbox the graphics were really quite poor, but like I said in my original post I noticed a lot of lag and freezing on Kashyyyk, but Zeffo just pissed me off because I kept dying over and over by falling through the solid ground. I had to load an old ass save and completely redo like 30 minutes of play right when I was about to get off the planet (along with a nearly full bar of XP so I lost all that too). Rage quit material. I couldn't bring myself to finish the game.

Damn that sucks. It seems like no one really had a middle ground experience. The console bugs are unfortunate. I had posted in another thread that FO was one of the first games in a long time that didn't have me muttering "fuck this game" all the time. Only once. But I've heard from enough people that the console ports were bad (your the first XBox player, but most people I know went PS4 last-gen).

Respawn/EA should give everyone who played Fallen Order on PS4/XBox a license key for the PC version & let them transfer their saves.

Come home to taste of shattering all of your expectations. Come home to the taste of the PC master race.

Oh shit I forgot that one....for good reason .

What? That game is awesome. Easy to learn, but crank it up to maximum difficulty and it's probably one of the hardest RTS campaigns ever. I never felt so happy winning that shit as the Rebel faction when you start off at such a stupid deficit.
