Simon Kinberg is known for cinematic blockbusters such as -
*XXX - State of the Union (writer)
*X-Men 3 - The Last Stand (writer)
*Fantastic Four (2015) (writer & producer)
*X-Men - Apocalypse (writer & producer)
*X-Men - Dark Pheonix (writer & producer)
*The New Mutants (producer)

Looks like Kathleen Kennedy has hired a top-talent for a new Star Wars trilogy!

More generally I think they should be done with "episodes" until its inevitably time for remakes.

That being said I think episode 9 left the story in such a bad place its not possible for 3 new movies to make things worse and can only make it better. I simply cannot imagine a worse ending than Palpatines grandaughter being the last one standing as Luke and Leias ghosts smile in the background.

Yeah I'd tend to agree, as with the TV series I think the period either during the originals or between them and the sequels is were theres room to make decent films.

I don't want to come over all culture war bro but there have been how many announcements of SW films which have been cancelled post episode 9? even that Rey sequel which we were told was close to filming seems to have been dropped. I do get the feeling were seeing some kind of legal malarkey going on, as in Lucasfilm or Kennedy have to say there making films to honour some agreement with DIsney even if they never intend to actually follow though.

The Mando film seems like the only thing which has a more concrete feeling to it for me.

Wow, they really are going to be pumping these out.

I did not realize that people were clamoring for more Star Wars movies.

Then again, due to the financial gambit involved with owning the rights to Star Wars, Disney may have to produce them in perpetuity, regardless of quality or public interest.

sadly,
those movies will make billions on the box office

I doubt it.

The Mandolorian movie is in post-production and I sincerely doubt the interest is high enough for it to get anywhere close to a billion at the boxoffice. Especially after that 3rd season.

Maybe $500-$600 million maximum.

What an absolute shitshow of a resume. Was there nobody with a track record of writing good movies available? Why hire someone who seems to be incapable of doing his job well?

To be fair I excluded some of the good movies he was involved with.

The budget is around $100 million isnt it? thats quite a lot lower than your typical mega blockbuster these days so £500+ million would probably be well into profit.

Personally I liked the 3rd season BUT I do think it reseolved a lot of the drama/plot to the degree this film is going to need to kick start it, add in many people not having watched the show and I think the "Baby Yoda mania" having dropped off and yeah it probably isnt doing a billion unless its realty well received.

I would say really Rogue One/Andor should be the kind of thing they focus on going forward, maybe its not going to have a super wide draw but quality content with a serious tone is most likely to sustain the franchise and theres pretty much limitless potential for stories involving smaller scale non jedi characters around the time of the originals(or just before/afterwards).
