I've officially given up on going to the gym today, left work, gone home, and started drinking. It just seems like that kind of day.

Weird as it may seem, the Couture resignation really has me down and pissed off at the same time. Has Zuffa really gotten so complacent that they couldn't hang on to the man who was probably their single biggest star? Couldn't come to terms with the biggest name that they didn't have under contract and bring Emelianenko to the Octagon?

DAMN.

I haven't been this pissed off about something MMA-related since... well, since Liddell pissed away his chance at another shot at Jackson by fighting like crap against Jardine, but the time before THAT was a really long time ago, I'm sure.

Just. Pissed. Off.

Now there won't be a Couture/Big Nog, which I think would have been an incredible fight no matter when it took place. Now there's a very real chance that we'll have to endure another Tim Sylvia reign as HW champ.

And I have a deep, gut-sinking feeling that maybe the undisclosed American interest in the new M-1 management really is McMahon. Can't think of anything worse to torpedo the credibility of MMA in the U.S. If it IS him, most likely case is that he'll throw a whole pile of money at getting the best unsigned fighters that he can, find that they aren't enough to profit from what he's paying them, and the whole thing will implode like the XFL. Even if that's "all" that happens, no good can come of it.

Yep. Pissed off, and hurrying along my way to getting pissed drunk on a Thursday afternoon. Bombs away....

Holy fuck. My stomach just dropped. If there is one fighter I hate more than anybody else, it's Tim "the gut" Sylvia.
 
I will remain carefully optimistic. Perhaps a few of the wanderers will be picked up: Hansen and Gomi being the first that comes to mind.
 
I may have a test tomorrow, but I got Yuengling and Amber Bock in the fridge.

Sylvia becoming a three-time HW champ isn't a sure thing. I think he'll get past Vera next weekend, but I never got the impression that Zuffa regarded him as particularly marketable, and they'll probably give him some solid opposition for the vacant title: Big Nog if he can get an impressive win in the Octagon, maybe even if he can't. Throw Filipovic in there as-is, poor UFC record be damned. It's still a dismal prospect.

I think it's probably too late for Zuffa to just declare Vera/Sylvia next weekend as a championship match for the vacant title. I hope.

Alaska would really be nice, though. Only kind of cruise I've ever seriously considered, too.

An Alaska cruise would be sweet. gots to checks it out before its all snow melt and ocean
