As expected, the second installation of “Squid Game” has been an immediate and massive success. Season 2 debuted with 68 million views in its first four days of availability — more than any other Netflix series has achieved in its premiere week, beating a record that “Wednesday” set with 50.1 million views in 2022.
The season also rapidly landed on Netflix’s list of its most popular non-English language TV titles of all time at No. 7, which is measured across each series’ first 91 days of viewership. Season 1 of “Squid Game” currently sits at the top of that list with 265.2 views, but Season 2 has plenty of time to potentially cross that line.

Just finished this season up. I liked it about equal to the 1st season. They didn’t change up the writing or formula due to the success of the 1st. The story seems pretty linear too. Liked most of the ‘new’ characters in the games and the consistency of the older characters.

One of the things I like with this show is the small details.. things like gathering up ammo when they got their hands on some weapons or quickly explaining a common plot hole away so the audience doesn’t get disillusioned by a convince later on. Another strength of this show is feeling of any character can go at any time. That’s kind of built in, but it’s still kind of surprising at times when certain ones go. The Tranny character is also well written so far imo. Very human, nothing over the top or promoting anything. She’s a very normal character who is flawed and just trying to get thru the situation like everyone else. It’s refreshing to see a subject that could have easily gone a much more sensationalized route simply go.. a normal route that lines up perfectly with the storytelling. In short, once the trans thing is introduced it melts away from the character just as quickly. And she’s one of the more likable characters too.

Lastly, I like the ‘new’ games that were added. The ‘Merry Go Round’ game was simple but really fucked up and I can see how that one would be stressful irl.

Overall I really dig this series. It does a great job of creating tension, introducing new variables, and keeping to the formula that made the 1st really fun to watch. It’s also supported by some solid characters who have fairly realistic responses to some stressful situations.

What i learned is never trust the person that has 001 in the game. I wonder if 001 is always a plant in the game. The Main guy should have been suspicious of him because last person with 001 ended up being the old guy plant
More about 001:
It looks like the original 001 was Front Man's father.

From: https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/squid-game-season-2-player-001-gambit-front-man-oh-young-il/
"... I hope you noticed that Oh Young-il has the same family name as former Player 001 Oh Il-nam. Because Seong Gi-hun certainly didn’t (Again: he’s kind of dumb)! The “Oh” surname sticks out in a country where roughly half the population is known as Kim, Lee, or Park. It’s possible that Oh is a false surname that Squid Game pretenders share, but season 2 makes it clear that the truth is likely more dramatic than that. In the season’s second episode, Jun-ho offhandedly mentions that Hwang In-ho was his mother’s adopted son, not his brother by birth. Squid Game fans have also noticed that Oh Young-il is lactose intolerant…just like Oh Il-nam said his son was. ..."

Finished earlier this week and immediately felt a void realizing I have no more episodes to watch lol. I loved it, I think it’s nearly on par with the first season which had the advantage of being a completely new entity but my expectations were totally exceeded with season 2. As good if not better than most every aspect.

I think what this season really has are the more compelling characters. I found myself attached to a lot more than I did in season one. Fleshing out the games, and the people behind them, was a great move and blurs the line between everyone involved. And that final episode had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Excellent tension with the stakes as high as possible.

Already can’t wait for the final episodes.

Also about the red light/green light game:
Even though the main character is covering his mouth, his whole body is shaking more than the body of the woman who got shot for shaking.

It would be interesting if the main character is also being protected like 001 because the main character is now in another kind of game. I wonder if 001 is grooming the main character to be the new front man.

Even though 001 is being protected, he took quite a risk participating in the rebellion. He could easily have been caught by a stray bullet.

Yea I've been wondering the same thing about the MC being groomed. It's one of the possible outcomes I could see happening.

Apparently Fincher still wants to do an Anerican version of Squid game. Usually wpuld say no way but Fincher might pull it off if he an Netflix go through with it.

I think Fincher could do really well with this it's his wheelhouse this type of stuff. I would want a US spin off rather than remake to keep the original in same universe though.

Yes do a spinoff instead of of a remake. I wouldn't want to just watch a remake so soon after finishing the original. Maybe eventually I would watch it if it was just a remake.

Yeah to do a remake American version isn't too off though it worked with The Office, American Idol etc. But I would want a spin off in the same universe with maybe a few of whoever lives in the finale next Christmas join cast even..

That could be awesome. Like if we find out that the Korean squid games aren't the only ones, and there are groups in other countries that do the same thing.

Could have a similar theme but new characters and storylines.

I liked it overall. They spent way too much time with the voting stuff when it was clear that they obviously weren't going to leave. Last episode kind of carries the season though.

Expected the cliffhanger but it did its job to build hype for the final season.

They spent a lot of time on the voting scenes but that music they played during the voting scenes was amazing. Great soundtrack.

I'm not subscribing to netflix with their price raising and greed. Top boy was the only reason I didn't cancel sooner. Squid games one was mediocre.

Russian Roulette is the highlight of the season for me, wish we got backstory to that guy, he was absolutely insane
Yeah, that character was freaking nuts! The actor did a damn good job.

Me and the wife finished Season 2 a few nights ago. Season one was better in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure they already stated that in season 1. Like the VIPs travel to different continents to watch the games and they like the Asian ones the most or something like that.

Yeah Fincher doing his own version of SG would have potential to be insane.

Not sure why you’d spoiler this I mentioned it on page one of this thread and in the 1st season thread. I don’t think there’s any harm in talking about it out in the open.

That said I think it’s obvious at this point they’re attempting to groom him.

Yeah; not quite as good as the first season, but I can appreciate they are trying something a little different (continuing 456’s story)

You dont thinkn its strange the two mains are alreays the first number 101 and thenlast number 456? And both games had 456 players with 001 and 456 in the same role in each game.

First time we had a sympathetic old man now this time we have a sympathetic old woman.

I wasn't sure if I needed to honestly but I figured better safe than having someone get pissed off for coming into a thread they shouldn't even be in if they haven't watched it season 2.

fmovies.................................

if you didnt like season one, you wont like season two, it is equally as good surprisingly enough. I thought S1 would be hard to top, but they really outdid themselves with S2.

even the tranny comes off as a likeable character, and he/she interestingly enough looks very Thai-ish.

I agree with the grooming stuff someone mentioned, the recruiter backstory................................. is essentially the MC in real time if that makes sense. MC is going through the massive ups and downs, and the character deaths, even with little development, hurt like S1
