The two prior years I was actually willing to pay for a PPV here and there but that had to stop. I'd like to watch this one, but I can't justify the price. Skipping the PPVs has broken my routine for following the sport and now I find it harder to fit the non-PPV fights into my schedule. I think they are going to lose popularity at these price points.

Availability=popularity=larger market=$$$. The traditional major sports in the US became that way by being available and by using their availability as a promotional tool in order to grow. I have to assume the inverse strategy has an inverse effect.

$80 for 3 hours of television entertainment that is full of ads. That will never not be a total rip off. Even if it was the best card of all time. You can attend a lot of sporting events in person for less. The worst part is, they have some people like me willing to pay something. But they get nothing because of their immense greed.
How else will you know about Toyo tires, P3, the latest shitty pg-13 horror movie or new UFC branded bling?

A lot of people would pay something like 20 bucks a month to get all UFC events as a subscription. I don't even know who these people are who first pay for a sub just to get the "privilege" of then getting to spend 80 fucking bucks on seeing 5 fights on your tv. Often not even 5 stacked fights either.

We're on a forum where all the hardcores go, the people who are so deep into the sport that on top of watching the fights they wanna have discussions about them. Look how many people on here are willing to pay those ridiculous prices. It's gotta be a small minority.

Agreed on all accounts:
- cards are too long because of commercials; ridiculous to charge people so much money and then try to sell them more sh:t. It's like going to a movie theater on opening night and finding out the movie will be interrupted by a bunch of commercials.

- this card is weak. I can appreciate Usman and Volk stepping up on short notice, but even so, we have a title rematch no one asked for (between a LW and FW), and then no ranked fighters on main card except Ankalaev and Walker? I'm sure UFC will magically rank Aliskerov and Said on the night of the PPV, but it's b.s.

- if UFC had a monthly subscription service for like 20$ that included PPVs, they would have a lot more subscribers. However, since ESPN just gives them a fixed check in return for a weekly card, UFC no longer cares if they alienate their core fans and never do another monster card like UFC 100.

And if they can’t get the most dedicated fans to pony up, how are they getting new fans? It can’t be good to grow the sport when you’re locking the best content behind exorbitant fees. It’s far past time to offer a premium subscription service. Something like $20 a month for all content. I’m confident a lot of people here would pay that.

Yup, I already have the subscription in my country. Hell, even a subscription and then having 2-3 super stacked PPVs a year would probably work just fine. Then people wouldn't feel like they're being ripped off.

Hahaahahahahahahahaha........

lol at that price for this card

Lol, it's crazy how expensive PPVs are now especially since you can't even buy them without already having ESPN+ so it's like 90 bucks which is like twice what it should be.

The way they look at it is they could charge $40 and get 600k people to buy it, or they could charge $80 and get 300k people. The 300k people will most likely always buy, but the 600k people might only buy really stacked cards.

PS, I remember when UFC PPV was $40 for SD and $45 for HD.

On a side note who in the actually fuck is paying this for PPV? Casuals who don't know anybody other than McGregor paying all this money for cards? I hardly know any MMA fans, and definitely don't know anybody who pays for ppvs. Bars in my area used to show events about ten years ago, now they never do, they would sooner show hockey reruns and replays than a ufc PPV.

With these kinds of ridiculous prices creating a really steep barrier for entry how is the sport supposed to get new fans? Especially younger fans, how is someone in junior high or highschool going to be able to pay such a ridiculous price.

I mean I know people do buy the pay per views but who in the fuck is actually doing it?

Looking at it like that is such tunnel vision. They could air it for free and get that joocy advertisement money. Suddenly a few million people watch it, all of those people are exposed to the UFC, more likely to spend money on merchandise, more likely to attend in person events.

I've attended a live event and had not spent a single dime on the UFC before that. I even went out of my way to travel all the way from the Netherlands to Sweden for it. If I hadn't streamed a lot of events beforehand the UFC would never have gotten those 200 euros out of me.
