Spartan Race

I've run a couple Tough Mudders which are 10-12 miles. I would say that you should focus on body-weight upper-body exercises and hills. If you did nothing but pull-ups and run hills, you would be decently prepared. The shorter mud runs are over so fast you will be fine. If you plan on doing a Mudder or Spartan Beast...then you will have to get serious.

If you want to do some sport specific training do your homework and look up some previous spartan races. It looks like working on crawling on your belly, climbing walls, possibly swimming, rope climbing, etc. Try to pick ones you see consistently, definitely work running since you know that's the primary focus of the race. Here is one of their videos, it's kind of cheesy but it gives you an idea of events to look out for.

i agree with this. i've done warrior dashes and a 12 mile TM. honestly, for the 5k warrior dash (equivalent to spartan), the obstacles = time to take a break (they're a joke). we were running up and down a mountain so that was actually the hardest part. TM was harder but i think it was mostly due to that they kept us soaking wet throughout and it was november in new england...

Thanks for the advice guys. Training is going very well so far. Losing a bit of weight and feeling strong.

To clarify, im doing a couple 5k races this summer, then a super in the fall. If training goes well i'll shoot for the trifecta and do a beast next year.
