International South Korea’s military shrinks by 20% as low birthrate hits recruitment

Korea is free to do what it likes with regards immigration, but it doesn't sound like the current strategy is helping much with their major issues and general decline.

I wonder what other options they can explore, perhaps a more healthy work life balance for the general population would be a start. No idea if they'll go that route though.

Sooner or later they have to do something to address their issues.

The primary reason they're having a demographic crisis is work life balance, cost of living and not being able to afford to buy a home or have kids. Importing immigrants will not solve that crisis.

I didn't say it would, I am also of the mentality that those things are the big issues in South Korea.

I don't really care about immigration.

I want to know how they're going to address this. Simple as that. I'm not sure.

I've always felt like low birthrates will temper themselves in the longer term, since the culture and genes that get passed on will disproportionately be the pro-natalist and the culture and genes that disappear will disproportionately be anti-natalist.

Also, just like Japan, South Korea was approaching its capacity, in terms of arable land per person. With climate change making things increasingly unpredictable, a population decline isn't necessarily a bad thing for them.

Another thing; there's no way China lets North Korea invade South Korea.

I can't remember the context, but it wasn't long ago that someone on here was using South Korea as an 'ideal' country.

I remember pointing out suicide rates are through the roof and the societal pressure and drive towards success is far too much, but they seemed to think it was wonderful there.

As I grow older, it would seem life within a society is all about balance.

Western countries haven't got that balance right either, don't get me wrong, we're leaning far too heavily into capitalism and pandering to rich assholes who couldn't give a shit about anyone else, but South Korea seems to have failed in achieving that balance even more so.

Sad, really.
A Korean classmate I have years ago told me how we in Manila are so lazy compared to students in S.Korea and that is why she liked it hear more to study. She says the social presure is real and if you do bad in University even if you graduate and got a degree your chances of getting a much comfortable job and salary decreases.

But now that they are shrinking maybe this pressure to over compete gets lessen a bit like there will be less competitors in the job market over there?

"don't get me wrong, we're leaning far too heavily into capitalism"

Indeed and you get immediately berated for being Muuhh Communist for even giving a short critic about capitalism.

Working there as a migrant laborer can suck big time like if you are a manual labor type, Factories etc. Racism is rampant too.

I am fascinated with East Asia mainly, China, Korea, Japan I would love to know more about them. I like the cultural aesthetics great people with great history.

In Osan right now. Been here for 2 weeks. Was in Japan for 7 days prior to that.

If you’re an American, got some spare time and a passport, visit these two countries soon.

Korea: the 4B movement thing is finished and the Korean females started dating again. But…. with the preference of NON Korean dudes.

Japan: Tinder is your friend. Nuff said

If I didn’t have wrestling coach obligations coming up soon I’d stay here for another 2 weeks.

I also accept examples of economies maintaining their current performance after a huge drop in birth rate. Do you have any?

And how do you think social safety nets are funded lol. Or health care workers are hired? It's not so easy to just cut back on them.

bro its simple the economy just picks itself by its own bootstraps. Like, do you know nothing about economic theory? It's almost as though all the many successes of late capitalism have passed you by entirely.

It will hit all Western civilizations, as women bear less children and give birth way later than the previous generations. Inevitable.
Not just Western countries, Iran and
India have falling birth rates as well, maybe below replacement already.

Both second world countries, not third world. So even those are going that way. Interesting.

These are outdated but technically they are third world countries, communist countries were second world.

Today we'd call them developing countries.

One post and the Liberal has hit the emergency ‘irrelevant history’ button.

Yes, bringing up birthrate trends from the past 50 years (that are still in effect today) is "irrelevant."

One post and fascist is already bailing out.

Yet despite all their problems they still don't want the dregs of the 3rd world.

Not wanting uneducated, low skill workers from shithole countries is not racism.

Yeah, seems like they're going out on their shield, so to speak.

Good for them but it's not a popular choice. No other country in the planet is doing this to the same degree and the only ones that support it are the most vile, marginal xenophobes.

Not wanting people who won't assimilate, have no respect for the native people or culture, and who will jack up crime rates is not racism. Pretty much no one from Europe would give a fuck about mass migration right now if it didn't come with an insane amount of issues at their expense.

This Liberal thinks the WW2 rebuild is having more an impact on current day birth rates than endless inflation and recessions.

Haha. Why do I argue with these retards?

The majority of the countries in the world have stringent immigration policy and enforce tight controls and limited access. Try illegally immigrating or overstaying your visa in all of Asia, the entire Middle East, India, China, Australia or many other countries. They'll deport your ass with a quickness just for overstaying your visa.

Only in the US do a wide swaths of people want the government to NOT want to enforce the law.

That doesn't mean we have to take in the entire third world who subsist on our taxpayer money. Point blank, I don't want to pay for all these people.

They get housing assistance, medical, food assistance and all sorts of other social services. All the people saying they're a net financial positive are full of shit.

A huge chunk work off the books and don't pay taxes. Then when they have kids, the hospitals eat the cost of the births, then their kids go to school for free, and they also all get food stamps. Plus Medicaid. It's a gigantic net financial drain for life. Yea fuck that.
