Television Sons of Anarchy Was Cringe

It was yellowstone before yellowstone. No ranch is the source of nonstop action. No mc operates like that. People just loved to see the world in the show plus they shoehorn in nonsense action and tension every episode to really make it grab ya.

Really stupid but fun while it lasted.

The redwood table is awesome

This!
Do crimes > make some money > start some legal business (bike repair shop?!) > give up on crime or do less crime, with little risk of going to prison
But no... honorable outlaws, we must do crimes and go to jail
They never made it a major plot point that Jax is clearly addicted to this lifestyle and wants it more than his family. He had the out. Tara had the job in Oregon that would provide for the family and get them out of Charming. He said no and wouldn't do it. He could have been a part time mechanic at West Linn Harley Davidson and lived happily ever after but running guns/drugs and killing people was just too much fun for him

I watched the first three series because my wife really liked it. I thought it was boring and depressing.

It was like a serious scrape after another with the next scape being bigger than the last and more convoluted. But I loved it even though I knew it was cornmeal. I didn't get on with Mayans, I know I live in California but I struggled with the accents.

It's been awhile but Jax couldn't leave since Danny Trejo and the other guy turned out to be CIA at the end of S4.

I don't think he knew that at the time though. I remember him telling Tara that he could never live off his wife and his only life skill was being a half decent mechanic so he had to be an outlaw to provide for them. He always talked tough like he wanted out of the life and was trying to set the cartel up as his last big job, when it came down to it though he couldn't do it

Go back and watch the S4 finale again, they literally can't leave or else his club goes to prison for trafficking.

It was The Sopranos for people too dumb to understand The Sopranos.

Sopranos wasn't even hard to understand.

I watched this show in real time like we used to in the olden days, week by week. Then I binged it a couple years ago. Do not binge this show unless you like feeling like absolute shit. It is dark and dreary and miserable with a bunch of people doing the most heinous shit possible to each other while pretending to be these conflicted souls with morality. Jax kills like 60 dudes but he wants to take his kids to t-ball practice and wear " world's greatest dad " t-shirt. Just from memory the whole think was bonkers. Gemma viciously slaughtering Tara (fuck your spoilers) was probably the most visceral tv murder ever tho.

I can only hope the intent of the show was not to be realistic. It was always referred to as a soap opera for men. You could look past the sheer impossibility of the plot, the twists and turns that shouted "We're on a deadline here! Finish the script!" and Jax getting so turned around by the end that he had a different accent every episode because they had you invested in the characters. For some stupid reason hoping they could get out, even though we know they all deserved to be killed by lethal injection 15 times over. It was fun to watch, once, if you didn't take it too seriously.

Also I added a cover of "Make it Rain" to my set, written by Foy Vance, (covered by Ed Sheeran on the show) thanks to SOA. Sons always had a solid soundtrack whenever Kurt wasn't giving Katey features.

It wasn't that bad but it inspired weird middle age dads to start riding bikes in groups. I cringed when one of these guys called me a cager or something close to that. I told them I trained teh UFC and called them sons of a pile of flaming sticks-narchy.

The worst part was the wannabe biker gangs that it spawned. I remember the one here, they put their club logo sticker all over the Starbucks parking lot that they hung out at. One night they were at the bar, right before our super busy college night started. One of the bikers parked his bike on the sidewalk next to the front door. I told him I wouldn't park there, these college kids will be lined up there shortly. He laughed and said nobody will mess with my bike. Ok cool biker guy............. <Fedor23>

These weren't real bikers like HA or all the other real clubs we have in California. These guys started because of SOA, it was obvious and they were all in their 20s. Eventually HA made them stop wearing their vests and whatever else they were doing.

I've seen every episode.

Seasons 1&2 - Great show. Showed potential to be as great as its predecessor, The Shield.
Season 3 - Dropped the ball. I can't remember the details but having them go to Ireland was a big narrative mistake.
Season 4 - Back to being great.
Season 5, 6, & 7 - Mostly crap, but it had a few high points but I can't remember what they were. The final season was absolute garbage with a finale as horrible as Dexter or Lost.

In short, its the most amazingly inconsistent show I've seen all the way through with some sections being damn near the best TV ever... up there with GoT S1-4, Breaking Bad, & The Shield... but also some of the worst like GoT S7&8, Dexter S5-7, and.... you get the point.

I've never bothered to rewatch it, so I can't recommend it.

But yeah, due to the show's quality turning to shit the whole theme of 'criminal biker gang' has become absolute cringe. I've seen wannabes walking around in public with Sons Of Anarchy vests on... calling them posers would be a compliment.

At the end of Season 1 or 2 it looked like the shows whole arc was Jax going to take up his dead fathers intention to completely change the club's M.O, 'real hippy shit' was the term he mentioned.
Then it just descended into some absolute nonsensical bonkers and his character never mentioned it again.
I wanted to see how it all might go so revisited the later series, Jimmy Smits did a very likeable performance as Nero and I wanted to see more of him.
Rest of the crew was pretty dumb.

Life imitating art (E.g wannabe bikers influenced by the show) is cringe, makes me want to turn into a conservative censorship supporter.

These marks really thought they were outlaw bikers

The only people I knew who watched were women who were in lust with one of the characters. Don’t know which one.
