Television Sons of Anarchy Was Cringe

The worst was all the show branded clothing people were wearing. I'd see whole families decked out.

I admittedly watched the show and hated every character. I started rooting for Clay. It was weird how they went around criming all day and all members were broke.

I saw a guy wearing a soa vest on Friday, found it kind of strange

It started off simple, mostly grounded just a crew of family and friends getting into fights and shootouts. It did get super wild where they would outsmart the cartel, DEA, and mostly anyone. It got comically over the top with full on brawls with music blaring in the background, mindless fun.

I was talking to someone who loves Yellowstone and they were trashing SOA, they didn't like when I said they are pretty much the same thing. Rip and his crew easily defeat trained mercs, beat all the murder charges, dumping bodies everywhere, that show is just as ridiculous if not more since they try to be so serious.

Watched a couple episodes with an ex, but found everyone to be unlikable after the first few episodes and haven't tried since.

Biker gangs just aren't my bag.

It was a different time at fx. It was like a halfway point between hbo and regular cable.

SOA on hbo would have been interesting.

I’ll say this: at the time I thought it was corny af. Then I watched and I could see the appeal. It was a cool premise with some questionable storylines but it could be very entertaining.

Yeah I watched a few episodes of Yellowstone and thought it was basically the same show.

I actually wouldn't have minded SOA but I really didn't like the random shootout fights and chase scenes in the middle of every episode.

great show btw, the chase scenes were pretty bad though. :p
Uh everyone has. Wife and I called Ragnar Jax.

Yellowstone couldve been great like SOA but both are such a mix of idiotic and good. That scene where Rip and Costner attack on horses riding into a fortified camp with ex-soldier merceneries behind obstacles with like automatic rifles and strong perimeter lights pointed at them and yet they just shoot everyone on their way in while nobody hits them... that was so... not even a word for it, ridiculously stupid doesnt cover it.

Yellowstone gets a lot of leeway on plot because they've set up how Dutton is the most powerful man in the state and everyone wants to be in his good graces. So they have constant plot armor for why they can get away with and do anything they want without consequence.

How Jax, as a nobody white trash mechanic, never got a murder charge for the 50+ people he killed was just insanity.

Rip is another classic example of a character who starts out as a badass so they have no where to go but to make him a full on Captain America

It definitely led to a lot of dudes in their 20s and 30s near me getting harleys and trying to dress and look like the lead actor guy.

Yes it was.

I kind of enjoyed the show but it was super cringe. The characters had no dialogues or normal people moments... it was a pretty stupid show and super unrelatable.

Still the storyline wasn't as bad.

I liked it when I saw it.
Because I was young.
But OP is right.
It is cringe.

The only TV series where a criminal is portrayed as a "good person" is Mr Inbetween. From what I've seen.

But with bikers... come on! outlaw & killer on a bike at night and during day a lovable husband & father.
While using full sentences.
The series is just not plausible.
Yeah, I know that you must dramatize it in order for people to watch it, but come on: a doctor getting involved with a criminal gang because she was in love with one of them.

Also, from what I remember they were killing each other like flies in a small town.
By the end, half of the town population should have been dead.

This!
Do crimes > make some money > start some legal business (bike repair shop?!) > give up on crime or do less crime, with little risk of going to prison
But no... honorable outlaws, we must do crimes and go to jail

I've seen every episode.

Seasons 1&2 - Great show. Showed potential to be as great as its predecessor, The Shield.
Season 3 - Dropped the ball. I can't remember the details but having them go to Ireland was a big narrative mistake.
Season 4 - Back to being great.
Season 5, 6, & 7 - Mostly crap, but it had a few high points but I can't remember what they were. The final season was absolute garbage with a finale as horrible as Dexter or Lost.

In short, its the most amazingly inconsistent show I've seen all the way through with some sections being damn near the best TV ever... up there with GoT S1-4, Breaking Bad, & The Shield... but also some of the worst like GoT S7&8, Dexter S5-7, and.... you get the point.

I've never bothered to rewatch it, so I can't recommend it.

But yeah, due to the show's quality turning to shit the whole theme of 'criminal biker gang' has become absolute cringe. I've seen wannabes walking around in public with Sons Of Anarchy vests on... calling them posers would be a compliment.

Anyone wearing biker gang gear is cringe.
I liked it but I know it was terrible in terms of over acted rubbish...but it was like crack. I left a Chevelle gig early to get back for the finale which was a bunch of religious or Shakespear bullshit.

Saw Chevelle at sick new world. Have seen em once before but like 10+years ago

Or Dexter. Or the Sopranos. Or Boardwalk Empire.

Well now you've have a list of shows to watch with criminals as the main character, and are at least better than Sons of Anarchy.

Highly recommend Breaking Bad & The Shield. They're my #1 & #2 GOAT shows.

Dexter Seasons 1-4 are great.
Sopranos is... well I never really bought Tony having redeemable qualities. That said I'm not a big fan of mobster movies in general.
Haven't seen Boardwalk Empire but I've heard good things.

I've loved them since 2000ish, they played the track I was hanging out to see and lived 10 minutes away so got back home pronto to see how it ended. Silly I know, but I was intrigued.

Haven't seen The Shield or Breaking Bad?

English is not my primary language, so I'll rephrase that
The only TV series where a criminal is portrayed as a "good person" is Mr Inbetween AND IT IS ACTUALLY SEMI-BELIEVABLE. From what I've seen.

The Shield - I have seen it long time ago and I liked it so correct me if I am wrong, but they aren't quite good people. They have their flaws.

Breaking Bad characters just aren't believable, imo!

Or Dexter. Or the Sopranos. Or Boardwalk Empire.

I've seen Sopranos but, also, from what I remember, they aren't quite good people in real life.
Maybe this is why I actually liked Sopranos.
Because the characters are more believable.
Tony is a criminal, he is impulsive, he has many flaws, he has family problems, mostly because he is not very good at handling his family life.
Jax Teller is created like a good guy, who does some bad stuff but only because he has to do it, but he regrets it, but he keeps doing it, and so on, and so on...
Also, Sopranos doesn't have many cheesy lines.
