"Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz on Thursday won the IBF purse bid for the mandatory fight between unified junior flyweight world titlist Hekkie Budler (32-3, 10 KOs), 30, of South Africa, and Felix Alvarado (33-2, 29 KOs), 29, of Nicaragua, one of Budler’s mandatory challengers. Lewkowicz, who is working with Alvarado’s team, was the only bidder with an offer of $25,000 with 75 percent ($18,750) due to Budler and 25 percent ($6,250) to Alvarado. IBF rules say the fight needs to take place within 90 days (by October 5) but Lewkowicz told ESPN he plans to put the fight on a date to be determined in September, possibly on the same card on which he plans to do super middleweight titlist David Benavidez’s mandatory defense against former titlist Anthony Dirrell. Per IBF rules, the Budler-Alvarado contracts are due to the sanctioning body within 15 days (by July 20). Budler, who has also won a world title at strawweight, eked out a decision in an upset against Ryoichi Taguchi to claim two 108-pound belts May 20 in Tokyo. Alvarado lost unanimous decisions in two previous title bouts, at flyweight and junior flyweight, in back-to-back fights in 2013 and 2014."

TL;DR some boxing champions get paid less than $20,000 and challengers less than $10,0000. Mighty Mouse should count his blessings lmao

VERY rarely does the UFC pay better than boxing. lol

You litterally couldnt find two more unknown boxers and there still making more money then some ufc fighters first fights in the UFC..its pretty fucked..

Combats Sports... Is Normal. These guys won't pack the arena or sell ESPN +... They are the UFC equivalent of Tuesday Night Contenders having their first contract...

Ken Shamrock fought Kimbo for $300 dollars and a full tank of gas for his RV/house

i agree i am just more in shock that a champion is getting paid less than $20,000 and the challenger less than $10,000. Like who even bothers fighting at that point anymore

People's perception of reality gets distorted when they see fight purses of guys like Floyd and Canelo. The reality is that the VAST majority of boxers make absolutely nothing.

Not true at all. Factually, undercard of the undercard fighters in the ufc make 10k. Do you think that undercard boxers make that much?
As well as the UFC providing accommodation and travel for fighters and their corners. Guarantee a lot of boxing promoters dont do that!
Also I believe the starting pay for UFC fighters is now 12.5k? Read it via @FrankieNYC post IIRC

Yeah those guys fight at 112 pounds. Those divisions dont make any money unless you are a star like Johnny Tapia, Donaire, Darchinyan, etc.

dude, they also get a handful of 25% off reebok coupons

They also get sponsorship pay too. $20,000 for an hour of work isn’t too shabby. Also, a lot of those guys have had the same trainer at the hole in the wall boxing gym for forever, I’m sure they don’t have to pay six different gyms, and all of the extra shit mma fighters tack on like nutritionists and stuff, so $20000 goes a lot farther. They also probably fight more often too.

boxing is a more dangerous sport all direct heavy head and body trauma all the time they better be getting paid the f out

Yeah and boxing is so littered with bull shit belts that some of these guys are given straps so that when bigger Names take them out it just builds the resume for the guy that was built up to be marketed.

Either way, the fighters (boxers or MMA fighters) enter into a mutual contract. They know what they are getting paid in advance. If they don’t like it, they don’t have to fight

Never understood why people care so much about what others are getting paid.
