I keep seeing fans of a particular fighter acting like moving up a weight class (in this case to their natural weight class) is some miraculous act of legendary status.

Um....it's been happening since UFC 1. Royce Gracie moved up how many weight classes, sometimes fighting several guys of different weights?

Sorry guys....what Conor did isn't that special.

His fight vs Kimo he went much farther up in weight.

Royce really did change the game of MMA! BJJ was made as fundamental after Royce's!

It's been done.

BJ moved up and won the WW championship
and then years later...
BJ moved up again to take on the WW GOAT.

Conor nuthuggers need to realize it's all been done before.

Someone tell OP jiujitsu is designed to overcome size and back then nobody knew what jiujitsu was.

Happened all the time in Pride.
Really not a big deal.
Conor nuthuggers will hang onto whatever they can though.

Did any poster say Conor was the first to do it?

He sure did. And the purposely put Royce in instead of Rickson just because they wanted every opponent to be bigger than their guy. Amazing.

Then...as it evolved and everyone had to learn BJJ....the elite wrestlers took it to another level. Hughes. Lesnar. Guys like that.

The result is sort a blend of wrestling/bjj that's awesome. American Grappling maybe... they should call it something original.

It's different when you fight guys who know how to fight.

Yes I know that of course. Point is....some fans act like Conor deserves a Medal of Honor for moving up a class. In reality it's not only not a huge deal...it's been done many many times before.

To pretend the sport hasn't progressed since then is disingenuous at best, trolling at worst....

How many fighters knew BJJ back when gracie fought? He also used his gi as a weapon.

Fighters are more well rounded now and the level of skill in each facet is higher.....

in this case apples =/ = oranges.....

He had the gi, man.
Had Conor had it, he would have slaughtered Nate.

Nope, just Conor himself.
Remember his instagram post?
He wanted us to let him know if and when a champion ever moves up a weight class.
To be fair, he said 2 weight classes but we all know he only moved up one.

and c'mon, the nuthuggers were making all sorts of claims, all you got to do is read the forum.

They say that now, they wanted Rickson. But Rorion was pissed Rickson was running his own academy, and... I mean, come on! Rorion is Rener's dad! Get it??? Rickson was thrown under the bus. What he would have done to those guys Royce had trouble with-- a stark difference. He would have embarassed Kimo, not survived him. Imposed his will on Severn, not bided his time.

It's certainly commendable considering Jones, GSP, Aldo and every other top fighter who hints for years that they will eventually move up and challenge the weight-class above theirs and never do. Especially because champions play it safe and don't want to risk looking bad, Conor on the other hand didn't think twice and he failed, but he went for it against a guy a 6 foot guy that's no joke. Good for both of them and his actions are certainly commendable.
