Somebody please explain

Too explosive to be elite. You will never be an A-level fighter with an NFL-level gas tank.

Also, he was fighting Matt Brown. A born fighter who can beat well trained 'athletes' via pure natural talent. No matter what Silva did, it would be almost impossible for him to finish a guy like Brown. Same reason a jacked up, well trained athlete like Overeem will never be in the same league as a natural born fighter like Cain Velasquez.

And it's the same reason a guy like Bob Sapp can play professionally in the NFL and look like a joke when it comes to fighting.

Silva does deserve respect for hanging in there as long as he did though.

It sounds like the NFL mugged you before

He gassed after Beating the sh** out of Brown in the middle of round one.Haven't you seen the fight??

Silva didn't beat the shit out of Brown, he tagged him a few times and then got all excited like a new guy and that's right about the time the real beating began to commence

Silva got beat up so bad he couldn't even remember he hurt brown's body! Brown had his wits the whole time - played it like the pro he is. Tough break for Silva - maybe some TUF cast offs could help build him up again

He throws all his eggs into one basket...he can't pace himself.

It's not a question of cardio,i'm sure he can train for 3 hours nonstop without much problems but he obviously gets overexcited trying to finish the fight, goes full power for 2 minutes and once he doesn't finish in reality he needs a break of 2-3 minutes to recover...trouble is,there's no break in MMA,so he basically start fighting on auto-pilot trying to muster every ounce of energy he has left.

He needs to learn how to pace himself,GSP/Cain style...don't get overeager trying to finish a fight,if it's there,it's there if not wait for a better spot.

Caps lock is cruise control for cool.

Keep rockin brother.

It's like he throws 200% power into everything, and prays to god that it finishes.

If not.. of course he's done

I don't want to make excuses for a Brazilian loss. But I can suggest several factors that can contribute to the gassing early situation with regard to Silva.

Start at the beginning:

1. Too muscled up. His body type plays a roll. He needs to lose a bit of muscle mass. It takes a lot of oxygen to drive that mass. And unless he's trained up his conditioning, he'll always struggle in deep waters. Which leads me to number two.

2.Cardio conditioning training. It's one of the factors a fighter can have control over: how long can you go. It doesn't do much good in the mma game to be able to sling heavy leather if you can't sustain the barrage. It's a 25 minute affair if things don't end early.

3. Adrenaline dump. It happens. It's a fight after all. The culumnation of months of hard work in the gym, the big moment is upon you and you're locked in a cage in front of thousands of people with some guy trying to take your head off? Yeah, a little excitement is to be expected. All that aside, when he got the advantage on Brown and saw the opportunity to end it:

4. He couldn't get his arm under Matt's chin so he just poured energy into trying to crank him into submission. But there's no way Matt was going to tap. He would have to put him out and he didn't have the arm in choke position. And here is where he gassed his arms out. See Lactor the Acid Monster. Then of course Brown weathered the storm, got back to his feet and Silva started:

5. Eating shots. Something that will take the piss right out of you is having a guy smashing his fists and elbows into your face over and over again. I wonder how long even the best cardio trained fighters can hold their stamina after taking such damage.

It seems like all these things played a factor into how quickly Silva gassed so early. We can only speculate, of course.

Silva's too tough for his own good. Definitely earned every bit of that extra 50k with his show of heart. The guy has power, technique and heart. He just needs to evolve his conditioning, which will take some of that muscle off. He would still maintain enough power to separate another man from his consciousness. You don't have to be built like He-Man to do so. But you do have to be able to take it deep (like a porn star) to stay in the game long enough to open up the opportunity to do so.

He crumbled under Matt's pressure. As I fucking predicted.

Lol @ anyone defending Silva with "That's what happens when you get beat up"....well its too bad he gassed before that happened.

I remember a gimmick on cage potato a couple years ago called 'CAPSLOCKHAL' or something

Shit was pretty funny

Rogan did a special podcast with Schaub where they watched the main card last night, and he kept saying that Silva cuts a massive amount of weight and that it badly affects his cardio.

And then the pace Brown drops on dudes. Not a good mix.

I would love to see some of the ELITE athletes of the NFL fight in the octagon.

fighters are trained to overcome fear, fatigue, adrenaline, etc., but it's different when you're in there taking a beating. damage must take away from your energy, especially body shots. I was kicked in the leg once, and I didn't feel like doing anything but sitting in the shower for the rest of the day (okay, I take showers).

people need to stop shitting on the level of athleticism in mma. they're not SUPERIOR, but they're certainly not INFERIOR. go ahead, post a pic of Roy....

Stfu caps lock OP. Watch every Overeem fight or Ellenberger/Kampmann and you will understand.

Combination of adrenaline dump, not so good gas tank, and most importantly Matt Brown put on an ass whooping of a lifetime on Silva.

he tried to get space to land those kicks, but Matt basically charged at him and started landing, hurt him, and it was downhill from there. it was weird seeing him run away before being hurt, since he had hurt Matt badly himself.

it was also weird seeing Matt trap his arm without resistance when he took him down, give up an armbar & a triangle, and then seeing Silva escape the mount when he was winded as hell.
