Tma guys without experience tend to spam heel kicks and other shit that can lead to injury.

Beginners or nervous light contact TMA guys are the most dangerous guys to spar with imo

I’d also add “new guy with some prior experience wanting to prove to coaches he’s legit” to that list

Haha yes for sure. Also every time i get new guys from a east bloc country.

Me: have you trained with sparring before?

Him: only a little bit coach..

Then starts sparring like he came straight out of mikes gym in Holland.

My coach trained under Maurice Smith and I trace my Dutch kickboxing back to him and his coaches. I have always quietly laughed to myself when I hear people say, “Muay Thai guys just want to stand in front of each other and trade!” because Dutch kickboxing somehow has this reputation of involving slick boxing and footwork into its craft when in reality you would be hard-pressed to watch a K1 tournament and describe it as anything other than standing and trading. At least the Thais use evasions and a variety of defenses when they exchange. My people literally shell up and take turns tossing hand grenades at each other 😆

Starting out in Wing Chun and learning that same form. Also, starting out in Kali. Those 2 arts seem to go together. Of Karate, boxing, Muay Thai, and Judo, this art is very cool. I like the respect, beauty, and mystique of the art basically for the same reason why I liked Karate. Plus, it is easier for an old man to do fpr fitness. Boxing and Karate is getting harder as I grown old. Want to try some of it in sparring. Not sure if I ever will be good enough to use it in self-defense but I see its application in some situations. Definitely not a ring combat sport. I am fortunate that my gym teaches boxing, Muay Thai, MMA, Jujistu, Kali, and Wing Chun and my tutition allows me access to all arts. They have competitive fight teams in several of the arts.
