Well you wouldn't think that way if it was your family. It's easy to say it's not our problem. It's the reason the world watched the situations in Sudan and the Congo. Ultimately theres nothing in it for us.

It IS our problem, that is the point. There are 65k Somali migrants in Minnesota alone, hundreds of thousands in the country, several Somali fraud and criminal networks. Not to mention many are on government benefits and eating up tax payer money outside of the fraud

I get where you are coming from and I think you are being sincere here.

Not you per se, but I think this thread is a good representation of this idea that there is even pushback against spending a few cents out of one's pocket to help kids who are dying from a preventable disease, when our political parties are taking thousands upon thousands of dollars out of our pockets (remember, WE are picking up the slack when the wealthy get tax cuts).

If we were all doctors in the emergency room, and someone walks in bleeding profusely from the head, while someone else walks in who wants their shoes shined, we are literally arguing over whether it's a good idea to save the guy who is dying, because the other guy wants his shoes polished. That's what the public is focused on. Shining the rich guy's shoes, who doesn't even need help. It would literally be like saying to the other doctors "you know guys, we need to make a choice here - we know that guy is going to die, but hell, we need to spend time polishing that guy's shoes - what should we do?"

Fuck you and your guilt trip, it's not some random western country's responsibility to save some failed and corrupt African nation that can't and wont help itself.
