Solving the #OscarsSoWhite Controversy

They already dealt with it. They already solved it. They've taken proactive measures to inject color into the Academy's 94%

Thats not solved, there has to be at least 30% black participants in the academy anything less is just nazi racism

How long can this privilige stand? not being proactive enough thats for sure, even the statue is racist, it just projects the facial features of a white man, what the shit is that, this insult to black people needs to end

You career as a political satirist would be a short one, my friend.

As I've said before, the actors speaking out about this and saying there is a race issue are cowards. Cowards because there are two simple questions they need to answer to make their point in any way relevant.

1. Which black actors who were not nominated, should have been nominated?

2. Which nominated actors then need to be told 'sorry, you're no longer nominated because you're white' ?

They're too scared to risk upsetting any of their fellow actors by answering those two vital questions, the second one in particular.

The only way to 'solve' this 'problem' is to start handing out participation trophy's.

Frankly, if I were part of the African American Community, I'd be far more concerned about the absolute slap in the face Hollywood has given them with the massive amount of white savior films produced recently. Now that is both embarrassing and insulting.
Yup I am completely sick of seeing torture porn involving black people and minorities. Can we please get films about all the positive moments in their history

Who cares ... Who even still watches the oscars?

When is this klan rally of an awards show? I need to set my dvr

Nutty professor eventually lost the weight. Positive moments have been covered extensively.

One more thought to add is that if there are more minorities cast in roles, it might level the nomination field but then again, if your majority audience is white, marketing says you need white people on the screen so a bit of a catch 22.

They already dealt with it. They already solved it. They've taken proactive measures to inject color into the Academy's 94% white male membership. They violated the integrity of the "buddy nomination" system which has stood in place since the founding of this awards ceremony, but oh well, I guess you don't have to build it to own it. Still, the disproportionate racial makeup hasn't changed at all since I was a boy, so I understand why they're trying to expedite the integration of nonwhite and female members. If won't change quickly without an artificial influence. People tend to identify with their own, white or black, but due to the nature of the world in the 1920's, the initial make-up is almost exclusively white.

So now we get to see if the nonwhites can prove to be as fair and without bigotry as the 94% of white men who have awarded the Oscars to almost perfectly reflect the greater ethnic make-up. I'm aware of the sports analogy. It isn't my favorite since the difference is that winning and losing in basketball is an objective competition, and not judged (only referee'd). Still, it brutally counters those who would assert that success within any particular pursuit must perfectly reflect the ethnic make-up of the greater population.

It is just freaking hilarious that Spike Lee & other blacks have spearheaded a movement which would rightfully benefit those of Asian/Latino descent.
IMO this problem (or phenomenon, I guess; plenty of people don't see any problem) is a systemic Hollywood issue, and the Oscars are just a symptom.

Reforming the Academy's membership is all well and good, but if you can't get a movie made or a meaty role as a minority because risk-averse producers holding the purse-strings think "that's not what people want to see" than what are you giving awards to?
