News Solar trees

Good. Now if they can come up with some fake lakes that clean themselves we're headed for a utopia.

I wouldn’t mind them mixed in with real trees, but most people crave nature and you can’t replace that with metal and silicone

We need real trees. They clean our air, provide habitat for wild life, and provide shade and a natural aesthetic. The ones in the OP are ugly as fuck.
Ya'll probably aren't going to like these either ...

imo if you don't think of them as trees and just canopies it is a much less stupid idea. If you live in a city then those dinky little trees on the sidewalk are doing fuck-all in the grand scheme of things, it isn't like these guys are replacing all of the trees in the rain forest and public parks with these things

I really dont understand the hate.

Very clearly and as mentioned by the OP they are designed for use in built up areas where having live trees is impractical.

It's funny how many make up and then shoot down the idea of ripping up real trees just to replace them with these.

I can see them being useful in parking lots, train stations, busy city pedestrian areas.

I don't think they will ever become popular in places where the ground is actual soil.

This. We already have such things are shades over parking lots, canvas or metal canopies, Wooden structures over picnic tables, etc. This only difference with these is they are used for solar energy. Though honestly my guess is that that cost to build, wire, store the energy, and clean then isn't really going to be cost effective. and I wouldn't make them look like trees. That's just dumb.

From a distance I think they would better and less monotonous then grids of panels.

I wonder if the trees will have different patterns? On one hand that would probably be more expensive to mass produce. But it would definitely make it less monotonous. It would be cool if they were all different styles and heights maybe.

Can’t we have both? I mean, I don’t think they’re proposing we cut down the entire Amazon and replace it with those.

I hope the trees will have outlets so I can charge my devices

This is fine, only if don't cut trees down for them. But I'm all for this it will help with power efficiency and the environment.

Sure, but TS was talking about all the negatives of trees not realizing we NEED them. They are filling whole parking lots here with Panels that provide shade for cars and protection from elements for the folks parking them. Way more surface area than these things. This just seems like a novelty.

I guess. But I just thought it was a given that trees were important.
