Futbol Soccer...?

In high school, the kids you think have "legit athletic ability" typically struggle on the soccer team.

But what does this say about the abilities required to play each sport?

Why didn't Asafa Powell keep playing soccer and make hundreds of millions of dollars playing an easy game that requires very little "athleticism"? We can go down the list of people you deem great "athletes" who couldn't play soccer to save their life but could probably make it in football. That's not a good sign.

In order to have a meaningful debate, you should give a definition of athleticism and go from there.

Atheticism in being able to do a wide variety of different athletic events like run jump throw, that is why the Olympic decathlon gold medalist earns the title "WORLDS GREATEST ATHLETE".

All the soccer guys can do is kick a ball around, little girls can do that.

The decathlon is a decent starting point but you'd need a lot more events to test all of the characteristics of an "athlete."

If the athletes in the NFL can't do what a little girl can do then there's a bit of an issue.

Facts.....

Soccer is boring to watch

It might be fun to play, but It’s so unbelievably fucking boring to watch. It’s men running after a ball for 90 minutes. Not to mention all of that diving and fake injuries. 1 or 2 goals a game and that’s only meaningful thing that happens.

Let’s compare it to other sports.

Baseball: every pitch counts/is meaningful

Football: every throw/hand off counts

Golf: every shot counts

Basketball: every basket counts

In these sports, these things happen constantly. In soccer, usually just 1 or 2 goals. Over 90 MINUTES. Interesting moments are extremely infrequent and there’s also way too many draws along with 0-0 games. BRUTAL. I understand that it’s really satisfying to score because it’s very difficult, but it doesn’t make for a captivating experience to watch at all. It literally just feels like watching chasing after a ball for 90 minutes with a very occasional cool moment. It sucks.

Just my opinion. Go ahead and downvote me

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can't give it more than 15 minutes, very boring.
I really am bored with talking about this boring sport, so this is my last post.
Adios~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stop acting like you know what any of the NFLers are capable of.
Why would a big fast strong athlete play soccer?
Oh I know what NFLers are capable of.
Good question. Why would Asafa Powell, Usain Bolt etc try to play soccer? Oh wait....they did.
I guess 5'11", 185 lbs Devin Hester isn't a great athlete after all.
<36>
You're a mess Elzio.
That's a shame.
I was sure that after a thousand posts Elzio was finally going to give a definition of athleticism and then present a logical argument for his position.
Lets start with your inability to get things right
Devin Hester
Devin Devorris Hester (Anytime or The Windy City Flyer)
Position
: PR-WR
5-11, 190lb (180cm, 86kg)
185.....ah wrong!
Atheticism isn't just kicking a ball around. The average NFLer was also a track guy, maybe basketbaler maybe baseballer, while all the soccerites ever did was kick a ball around, what about that can't you figure out?
Bolt and Powell grew up arond soccer being Jamaicans. If Americans they are both WR's.
He's back! That was quick. I'd say a mess is you trying to post something with proper formatting.
<36>
185, 190...doesn't really matter. Hester could be 205 but he's still a manlet and not a great athlete by your definition.
<seedat>
You still haven't explained why Asafa Powell couldn't cut it in a game that little girls can play.
I played 4 years of HS football (15 years of city flag football) during the off season I lifted weigts and ran track, was a 10.2 100 yarder and a 20 foot long jumper. The track kept me in shape.
My story is pretty much the norm here in America, most footballers doing other things in the off season. Apparently the soccer guys just played soccer all year round.
So how in the hell can they be great athletes if all they ever did was kick a ball around, well?
I ran the 100 ran the 200 and ran a leg on our 4x4 team, so I could run. I coud jump. I lifted weights. Then here came football, I played both ways so was tackled, I had to tackle had to have speed power and agility, no just kicking a ball around here.
If you don't know the difference 5 pounds of muscle makes I can't help ya, it;s huge. Next time get it right.
Asafa Powell is a weird deal, he is one of histories fastest sprinters, but he always shrunk in the big meets, he had more sub 10;s than Bolt yet he never won anything. I can see him being a falure in all sports.
But, trying to use a couple athletes as an example of anything is stupid. That is why I always use a large gang of examples.
Is this funny or what?
Soccer guys ONLY play soccer, they don't train for anything else, no sprinters, no jumpers, no throwers, no nothing other than soccer. BUT............they are great athletes anyway..............are you kidding me?
Bo Jackson was a decathlete he did it all, and he also played baseball, but.................he can't be on a par with a just kick a ball around soccerite.......hahahahahaha~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was looking at some of his testing results when he was younger. Doesn't matter though. 5 lbs isn't changing anything by your definition. A manlet is a manlet.
Usain Bolt couldn't cut it in soccer, son. It's a real long list of people that couldn't play soccer and ended up playing other sports.
Lmao at flag football. This explains why you don't understand anything.
Try playing an actual sport, squirt.
What soccer player can do anything else, well?
No great sprinters or hurdlers or jumpers or throwers or MMAers or NFLers or basketballer, hell........just kicking a ball around is it.
Dude, the avg size of a soccerite is 165 pounds, tat is a midget in most sports,
Whoa....
I played 4 seasons of HS football as I mentioned, the flag football came when I was around 26ish.
What is it I don't understand?
I was at an insurance convention ran into a couple old HS buddies who played city league flag football, they asked me to join them so i did. We had a few former NFLers out there with us.
Imagine playing f(l)ag football and criticizing other sports.
<36>
I never said soccer or football had the best athletes. I merely asked for you to give a proper definition of an athlete and then try to form an argument instead of spewing nonsense.
You're a gem Elzio.
I also played coed volleyball.
What is it about just looking to stay in shape don't you understand? I had a non physical job, so I needed something anything to do, flag football was perfect.
One thing for sure just kicking a ball around isn't that athletic. Thats why little kids and girls play soccer.
You come off as being pretty dense guy.
"Little kids play"
"Dense"
You've had quite an athletic career.
