Futbol Soccer...?

Terry a 25-10 long jumper at Long Beach State, Eric an NCCA long jump champ for Texas with a great 27=4 PR

Imagine soccer was 3+ hours of nothing but corners, with an ad break after every 5 or so, and almost a hundred different players dressed up for the game being constantly subbed on and off the pitch. Maybe have separate teams for whether the kick is being taken from the left or right side. You could even statisticize the shit out of it with stuff like how many times a player has hit the crossbar, his ratio of scoring from headers vs kicks, the average height hes jumping for the ball on each play etc.

Now THAT would be exciting!

This Estevao kid that Chelsea are getting in the summer is entertaining as fuck imo. If you don't fine what he's doing in this video entertaining it's just probably not the sport for you.

Soccer is an easy fix really, imo.

Make the field 2/3 the size it is now. Fucking thing is WAY too big and does nothing to improve the dynamic of the game as far as I can tell. This would likely result in more intense gameplay with a deeper sub strategy but I think it would work.

They need to get game scores into the 6-10 goal window to push a more exciting product imo.

As it stands, I respect these guys as well conditioned athletes but can't be arsed to watch a glorified passing practice.

tbh personally the low scoring is what I like about it, every goal can potentially be the game winning one. That's part of why I struggle with basketball, which I don't mind watching but I can't get emotionally invested in a game because it doesn't feel like the individual baskets really mean anything and it doesn't get exciting until the 4th quarter.

In terms of increasing goalscoring I think making the pitch smaller would actually lower scoring because there'd be less space. You'd need to either make the pitch bigger or increase the size of the goals.

Increasing the size of the goals has been discussed in the past because the average goalkeeper is probably a good half a foot taller than they used to be when the current goal dimensions were put in place. There's more goals in women's football than in the men's game which is in a large part due to the keepers just being smaller.

American football just cant do highlights like these, its too rigid and lacking in variation and dynamism.

American football lacks variation? There's literally like 1000 different possible plays that can be run during a game.

Just for that outburst I’m revamping my opinion. The soccer pitch should be no bigger than an NHL rink!!

Its just blocking schemes and routes, ultimately it all amounts to either the QB throws the ball to a receiver or hands it off to a running back. Rinse and repeat for 3+ hours.

Indoor soccer and futsal have exactly what you're asking for. Anywhere from 5 vs 5 to 7 vs 7 and with considerably higher scoring.

Most actual soccer fans like them ok but prefer the increased speed of 11 vs 11. The big field gives greater room for more athleticism and sprints.

Can't have these in a small area:

So kicking the ball is more complicated?

No, but we could have body checking.

I didnt say that, I said it was more varied. Soccer has dribbling (which has a lot of room for creativity by itself), use of head, chest, knees to control the ball in addition to feet, corners, throw ins, free kicks, penalties, goalkeeper saves, passes along the ground, aerial passes, multiple passes strung together going in multiple directions between multiple different players, volleys, bicycle kicks etc. Its an extremely creative and expressive game.

American football has a bunch of linemen bending over, "GREEN 18", ball snaps back to QB, linemen go sumo mode, receivers run their route, QB tries to throw it to one of them or hands it off to the RB, it all lasts maybe 5 seconds, end of play. Its essentially a bunch of slight variations of that. Yes, its a complicated game (how could it not be when its literally just a series of ultra scripted set pieces?) but its also a very linear and repetitive one. Its daddy rugby has way more variation too.

It's me and not soccer, way too many enjoy this game for me to be too critical of it.

I have this weird obsession with speed. that is why I prefer track and football, speed~~~~~~. Just not enought of that in soccer, rugby for me;

Anytime we see scores like 2=1, yep.....boring.

Compared to football the athletes are tiny and really slow and just kicking a ball around, shocked it's as popular as it is to be honest. I guess the good thing about it is everyone can play it.
A 2-1 hockey game can be incredibly exciting. It's not the scores so much as the chances. Soccer just doesn't have nearly as many.

I actually enjoy it. I follow the local team we have in Sacramento but it’s a low level league unfortunately.

Too bad all the best teams are in Europe but i can’t follow team sports unless I have a team and having a team is regional for me. I can’t just choose a team from anywhere that I happen to like. They have to be in a distance to where I can just up and decide to go to a game…and I think it’s kinda gay when Americans become die hard fans of teams in completely different countries.

I knew this guy who would get up all early to watch Manchester United games and I didn’t get it. He would get all bent up about the games. How does one become a die hard Manchester United fan here? Where’s the connection?

It would be cool if the sport caught on here because once American money gets interested, it changes the balance..but right now, you pretty much have to give a player like Messi ownership of the franchise just to get him over when he’s past his prime

this guy. if it is that boring it would not grow in not footballing nations even in usa where nfl has monopoli on sports media it is growing even new leagues are poping out and implimenting pro/rel. so it is most athletic/stemina/strenght balanced sport
