So what's the deal with "locker room" bonuses???

They're checks.

And they're at least 10x contracted pay on average. Most UFC fighters make 7 figs even though all the AC's report is 6k/6k.

Could be wrong, but i heard they split up monopoly money in the back... who knows

I think dana hands out free tickets to the next show

Nobody knows, unless they have been told personally by a fighter, some of these sherdog kids just like to act like know-it-alls. The only people who know are the fighter and whoever gives them these alleged bonuses.

Shogun got the win bonus in the locker for getting the shaft in vs. Machida I.

and why do we park on driveways and drive on parkways

whats the deal?

I'm thinking the only reason fighters have been so secretive is because it's something like casino chips or cash. It would be up to the fighter to report to the IRS.

I remember hearing Cowboy Cerrone on my local radio station talking about winning some fight bonus and telling the hosts that he will use "some" of it to pay off his 2011 taxes.

Or they just aren't interested in advertising how much they make. That's something people typically don't like to talk about.

Cerrone saying he's going to use his bonus to pay off taxes doesn't mean anything other than he's using his bonus to pay off taxes. It doesn't mean the income isn't taxed.

In all seriousness, locker room bonus is just a proof of how badly these MMA fighters/professional athletes are paid by UFC, but because the contract figure is so small, they have to compensate them behind the scenes on a discretionary basis (meaning, not guaranteed, toally up to Zuffa, which gives fighter less security, but all the power to the organization).

If the fighters were compensated better/more fair relative to UFC revenue and how much Dana/Zuff makes, there wont be any need for "under the table pay" or locker room bonus.

Who can live on 8k/8k these days? Rarely any fighter fight 3x a yr anymore due to injuries, event scheduling, etc. 8k to show pre tax wont even cover cost of training and personal/family expenses for the past 3 months preparing for the fight. Even 24k or 38k pretax is rediculously given fighitng 2-3x a yr max, and minus all the cost of training/trainers, manager, etc. ...Thats why "locker room" bonus is needed since 90% of the fighters wont be able to continue with the contract figure.

If you fight well Dana makes Arianny show you her boobs

I remember Ian McCall saying he got 88k even though his purse was tiny so the bonuses must be pretty substantial. Maldonaldo also said he got paid quite well after the beating he received from Texiera.

they get Station Casino chips from the fertittas and boxercise coupons from dana. thats why they dont want to talk about it.

You missed my point champ. The bonus was $75K minus half to Uncle Sam.

If he used the entire post tax amount (to pay 2011 year taxes), that would put him at less than $200K/yr gross taxable income, assuming he didn't have dividend income or 100 dependents.

He fought 5 times with 4 bonuses in 2011.
