I was out walking my dog on a bike trail across the street from a university.
I see a college aged asian guy doing some weird movements on the side of the trail think he may be doing Tai Chi or something. When I get closer I hear he is screaming. Then I get closer and he is screaming I love you and some other gibberish and was not doing Tai Chi.
I figure he must have taken too much ecstasy or something. I try to steer clear of him and keep my distance and walk by him. I look back and he is screaming and then lies on the ground. I was worried about him but wasn't sure what I could do for him and I didn't have my cell phone.
I keep walking and then all the sudden the guy is running towards me and has a pissed off look on his face and is calling me Larry and I couldn't make out what he was saying.
I don't trust my dog off leash so I really didn't want to get into anything physical with him. I figured he on drugs or had a nervous breakdown or something. He wasn't a big guy so I wasn't too concerned other than about my dog and the busy street next to the bike trail.
I told him firmly I am not Larry. You must have me confused with someone else. Then on a dime his face changed and started telling me he loved me.
I turned and walked quickly down the trail to get out of his immediate space. Two college aged girls who looked like pretty serious runners went running by the other way and I didn't know if I should warn them about the guy who was maybe 30 yards down the path. I didn't but I watched to make sure they were okay running by him.
I walk to the nearest signal and see a student on a bike and ask if he has a cell phone and he says yes. I then ask if call call the police. He then looks at me like I am crazy and bikes off.
As I walked home and the adrenaline went down I couldn't decide if I should let it go or call the police. If the guy didn't come at me aggressively, I might let it go. But if he did that to a woman I would not feel good about letting it go so I called the police and they said they are already there.
What would have you done in this circumstance?
