So i was at the gym and heard something odd

Was getting done swimming at the gym near closing time, and a group of arabs came in to the pool and started blaring what i would refer to as 'muslim music'. I only speak enlgish so i couldn't translate what was exactly being sung but i have to assume that it was prayer music to allah

To their defense i was heading out as it was near closing time and i don't think any other person was in the pool to take objection to it, but my basic question is

Is this some arab custom i'm not aware of? Or were they trying to send a message? (the music was so loud i could hear it outside of the enclosed pool room over the ambient gym music that plays over the speakers and i think its against gym policy to play your own openly audible music anyways)

Maybe i'm just overthinking the whole situation but i've heard some pretty bizarre stories regarding muslims and pools.

That's why i'm just asking on here, i didn't confront them. But i will say if i was a hardcore catholic i think it would be inappropriate for me to blare some ave maria or the like for everyone to hear. (even though it would be pretty hard to hear music underwater and swimming to religious music just doesn't seem to make sense to me in the first place)
