So I started collecting vinyl again

Curious what ppl use for a turntable, if they actually play the LPs that is.
I literally have about 250 LPs from the 60s, 70s and early 80s in my closet.
All have been played of course but many still good shape.
I have a little stand alone turntable with it's own speakers, but c'mon.
Weak.
I'm back to using 1210s again, but I might have to opt for another one to play albums in full. If I play the best records on the 1210s with heavy arms and killer needles I'll probably fuck them up. So rather than switching it the cartridge heads I just need another turntable.
Need something that isn't amped, I have another mini amp I can use and I like picking up old speakers

New, 1210s can suck a dick compared to the OG decks

Check out this guide Gio put together. Covers just about anything media related

Nice one thanks, I swear I get different results every time I post

Crosley C8

It's basically a rebranded better looking fluance.

Picked up this 7" collection of De LA's first album, hands down my favourite hip hop album of all time.

Nice release, it's the album spread over 12 individually sleeved 7" singles, all coloured vinyl. Might have to double up on this

So I was looking for First or any re-pressings of the first two Marilyn Manson albums... Portrait of an American Family and Antichrist Superstar and holy fuck they are rare. The oldest pressings are 1998 UK and go for like $800. Hot topic did a repress of Antichrist Superstar limited to 1500 copies ten years ago and those go for like $400+

I guess Trent Reznor is to this day holding the master tapes for Antichrist Superstar and won't give them back to Manson.

I guess I may have to go the bootleg route even I hate doing that.

Going to cruise my local thrift/antique store tomorrow. I'm hoping to score a Tom Jones album.
Thrift stores are good place to look, but I've never gotten lucky cause they are usually picked over quickly. Plus a lot of people know how much desirable records records are going for now and usually take them to record stores.

I still look at antique malls and stores and usually find good stuff, but even they are overpricing stuff now. Sometimes I wish I was one of those rare people 25-35 years ago that bought vinyl copies of everything and still listened to records. If I was buying good used stuff for a few bucks or even new stuff during the 90s, I'd be loaded right now lol.

But, good luck bud, I hope you find some gems.

If I find anything good, I'll post pics! :)

Yeah we have Oxfam over here that used to be a regular charity shop, now they have people working for them that work on pricing vinyl among other things. Sucks, I haven't found anything outstanding for years at a thrift shop or boot sale

You're in the UK right? Fuck man, I wish I collected Vinyl when I was there in 2017. I'd like to go back in general, but also make it a point to hit records stores in London.

I would definitely love to pick up some UK first presses of 90s records as they are bit more plentiful than the US pressings. Or even UK pressing of 60s albums like that LZ I record I bought in Copenhagen. Would save me a lot of money on shipping.

Where do you order from when its overseas? Because if it's Discogs they massively over charge for shipping, even for local UK post. Not sure if they have their own system, their own costs to add on, but they're way more expensive than buying from eBay or an actual record store. Some great stuff on there but I refuse to pay the shipping most times

I've been buying these job lots of vinyl, and the cost for receiving 100 or so is not too much more than a single 12 from Discogs

Usually discogs or eBay.

A lot of the bands I listen to are European and some thankfully have their own US distributor but most do not and the fees for shipping and importing are f'n insane but I pay it to support them.

Has their been a massive uptick in the shipping charges and fees due to brexit?

Initially the charges from Europe to UK went sky high, lots of customs issues but they're mostly resolved now. UK in general has increased postage charges, but Discogs seem to charge the higher end for some reason. I don't sell on there so I don't know their procedures, but buying single vinyls is not worth the cost mostly. Importing from the US can be $20 to $30 a pop. I wanted an album from Germany and they wanted €32 for shipping. It doesn't have to cost that much but like I said, I assume either sellers or Discogs themselves force you to pay the higher end for recorded signed for

There are cheaper options available though

I usually try to find the cheapest record cost with higher shipping if I absolutely must. Id rather pay $50 plus $50 shipping for a $100 record than $100 with free shipping because I'd pay less tax. Problem is, it's hard to find good records overseas that balance out with high shipping.

I hit up my honey-hole (favorite spot) and found one of the GOAT albums. I was looking for a Tom Jones and I found one, but it was a live album. I've found live albums to be hit or miss, so I wanted to hear it first which is impossible because all sales are final.

My older sister has a honey-hole in Alabama that we've been to and I'm going to head back over there with her in late Summer/Fall/Winter.
